Wolves fans hit back at Bruno Lage’s message to them post-match after draw at Bournemouth

Wolves fans hit back at manager Bruno Lage’s message to them post-match after the goalless draw at AFC Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

The Cherries responded to their 9-0 Liverpool hammering by getting a clean sheet to frustrate Wolverhampton Wanderers in a 0-0 draw and stretch their winless run to 12 Premier League matches – but once again, boss Bruno Lage vowed “the goals will come”.

Life after Scott Parker began a cautious one under interim Cherries boss Gary O’Neil whose side were fortunate not to suffer their fourth defeat of the season.

Wolves missed a number of chances after Raul Jimenez squandered two late opportunities before the hosts’ Lloyd Kelly cleared Daniel Podence’s header off the line.

Bruno Lage’s Wolves side have not tasted victory in the Premier League since way back in April having taken only three points this season, which leaves them in the bottom three, but he believes performances so far have warranted more and that his side will start to find the net.

“We didn’t score, we are frustrated about the result but I said to the players now is not the time to cry over the chances we didn’t score,” he said, having seen Wolves hit the net just twice in five matches.

“I think we deserved more than what we have at the moment, not just tonight but the other games. I believe the way we’re playing, the way we work, the goals will come because we have a lot of players that can score goals.”

Player ratings:

Bournemouth: Neto (7), Smith (6), Kelly (7), Mepham (7), Zemura (6), Billing (6), Lerma (6), Cook (6), Tavernier (6), Christie (6), Solanke (6).

Subs: Fredericks (6), Moore (6), Anthony (n/a).

Wolves: Sa (7), Collins (7), Neto (7), Neves (7), Jimenez (6), Guedes (6), Jonny (6), Semedo (6), Kilman (7), Nunes (7), Moutinho (7).

Subs: Ait-Nouri (6), Podence (6), Traore (6).

Man of the match: Ruben Neves (Wolves)

Wolves head coach Bruno Lage: “We created a lot of good chances to score goals. We didn’t score, we are frustrated about the result but I said to the players now is not the time to cry over the chances we didn’t score. It’s one more point in our journey.

“I think we deserved more than what we have at the moment, not just about tonight but the other games. It is what is it and we need to continue to work.

“I believe the way we’re playing, the way we work, the goals will come because we have a lot of players that can score goals. Even today we tried so many ways to score and we didn’t.”

Bruno on Wolves fans frustrations: “We are working so hard to build this squad, we need patience & time. We dominated the game around 70% of ball possession. We are playing in a different system & players coming in late to the club. Fans should be confident & patient”

Bournemouth interim boss Gary O’Neil: “Did I expect my first game (in management) to be in the Premier League off the back of a tough defeat? No, I didn’t. I had 36 hours to think about it and I used all 36 hours thinking.

“The underlying feeling is proud of what they produced and hopefully we can improve certain bits. It all moved pretty quick and I haven’t really had time to breathe or assess where we are.

“As a group, they’re the most honest, hard-working, together, relentless group that I’ve ever been involved with, even in my playing career. You can throw everything at them and they will never quit. And I think we have enough to be competitive at this level.

“From what I asked the boys to do this evening, they produced. They showed commitment, bravery, togetherness in a tough moment, so I’m proud of that.

“Of course, we’ll look to improve certain bits of it, but as a starting point from where we’ve been in the last few weeks it’s a real positive for us.”

Asked whether he’s heard anything about a potential replacement for Parker, O’Neil said: “Nothing other than I was asked to take the game this evening and until further notice, so that’s all I’ve been told so far.”

As mentioned, Wolves fans hit back at Bruno Lage’s message to them post-match after the 0-0 draw at Bournemouth, with games against Southampton, Liverpool, Man City, West Ham and Chelsea coming up…

@IainPitt: We don’t have time – that is why you have a preseason.

@bagnall_brad: We’ve been patient enough. No win in 12 games in horrific form. We should be worried

@Cal_Wood1990: Yeah can’t wait for our next 5 games

@AshDolan16: 12 games without a win. How much more patience do you want.

@Anthony44119314: Nope sorry Bruno there’s enough talent there to bury Bournemouth but you couldn’t motivate or tactically do it.. nuno would have done….

@salopwolf: I have run out of patience because I have no confidence in the team turning the corner, we will be bottom after next bunch of games

@JonnyQ88: Not sure there has been a lot to put much faith in though. The first 3 games of last season we could all see we were battering teams but couldn’t score, but we knew it was coming. This season I just don’t see an ounce of excitement from us at all.

@OhAnotherWolf: It’s not patience, it’s basic ability to do the main objective in football

@M1tch1511: Can’t be patient in this league need goals to win games and we ain’t scoring. only so much time can be given before fans start to turn on the staff

@bendoll1: Going back to last season the team hasn’t been able to win at all. How much more patience does he want?

@coopa1079: He’s won once in the last 14 and that was due to an own goal. He can say what he wants very few will be content with that tonight

@AdamWoodfield: Confident? We didn’t play one attacking ball through the lines. Like we are waiting for them to make a mistake rather than us creating anything.

@mortimer_ben: 1 win in 14! Jesus

@tcozza6984: Patient gets u relegated in this league

@_Arcturus1: Needs to go, don’t care if we win against southampton, considering the players we have it’s absolutely criminal that we’ve struggled against 2 championship quality sides already

@WolvesNumber37: I agree to some extent but we dominate the ball and do nothing with it for 90% of the time. It was better when Neto and Adama would just try and beat 5 men and cross it every game

@BloxwichWolf: So if we don’t win Saturday then we’ll be going into October rock bottom and with 0 wins and he wants patience? We need at least 10 wins from 38 to stay up and we’d of have 0 from 8.

@PerrinsR: We’re going down if this carries on. Patience my a$$. We need goals, the hardest thing to get in football…I’ve tried to be patient but Bruno isn’t the man to lead us from where we’re currently sat in the league and we should make a change now whilst we have time.

@catfunt666: If football was a game of “let’s see how many sideways and backwards passes we can accumulate without stepping inside the opponents box”. We’d win every fucking week

@Beeowolf79: The system doesn’t work… and he has no back up plan against any type of opposition. He’s finished if we don’t win at the weekend.

@JayWilkes34: GET THE WINGERS IN THEIR RIGHT WINGS. Otherwise they stop and play it back. Remember Neto off the left, he’s nothing on the right. Probably got to drop Joao and get Podence near to Raul who looks isolated at the moment. Nunes only playing 45 atm.

@pedalsingh: Even without recruitment, I’d have expected a system and pattern of play to bring us more hope in these five games…the easiest start we could’ve asked for.

@JackDHolden: We’ve been patient for the last 14 games 🤦🏻‍♂️ Got the players he wanted, 4 at the back to be more attacking, yet create no clear cut chances! We’ve become predictable, always play wide and cut inside, how about a basic through ball to cut the lines 🤔
