Newcastle coach spotted throwing ‘object’ at Liverpool bench leading to mass confrontation

Newcastle coach spotted throwing ‘object’ at Liverpool bench leading to mass confrontation after Fabio Carvalho’s very late winner on Wednesday.

Liverpool’s dramatic win over Newcastle descended into chaos with a member the opposition’s bench spotted throwing allegedly a water bottle in the direction of Jurgen Klopp and his staff during their celebrations.

Liverpool and Newcastle had looked set to share a point despite the hosts’ best efforts in trying to find a winner late in the game, the 98th minute to be precise despite five only been shown on the board come the 90.

Kopites at Anfield went into pandemonium when Carvalho smashed his effort fromclose-range effort into the roof of the net, causing the Liverpool bench to exploded with coaches and players jumping on each other.

There were some ugly scenes in the aftermath though with both Liverpool and Newcastle staff members getting into an argument with both having to be separated and it wasn’t immediately clear what sparked the heated scenes between them both.

Newcastle appeared aggrieved that referee Andre Marriner had allowed nine minutes of added time despite just five being allocated. BT Sport then showed footage that came immediately after Liverpool’s winner, having a good look at a Newcastle staff member throwing an object towards the Reds’ bench.

Liverpool’s coaching staff were incensed at the reaction from their opponents with the club’s head of fitness, Andreas Kornmayer, spotted sarcastically waving Newcastle’s bench away. Joel Matip was also spotted lapping up Carvalho’s goal from the bench, falling to the floor and wildly slapping the ground.

Others on the Liverpool bench were also lapping up the scenes with Darwin Nunez spotted standing on his seat and cheering loudly. Calvin Ramsay took a more laid back approach as he was pictured smiling with Nunez stood alongside him.

After the final whistle, Newcastle players and staff went to the away end to thank their travelling support, but were hounded by boos from the home crowd as they walked off the pitch.

“When we scored after 90-plus-eight minutes, it’s the perfect response to that, to be honest. I’m really happy about that, but nothing else to say,” Jurgen Klopp told BT Sport after the Premier League clash.

“It was the perfect moment to win this game because it was a difficult game, very passionate, aggressive defending. It’s difficult to pick up the rhythm from a game where everything clicked immediately and you find yourself in situations where it isn’t clicking immediately.

“I told the boys at half-time even before we were 1-0 down, we looked a bit desperate already, we didn’t play the extra pass. When we did that, we were really dangerous, so we had to force ourselves to keep calm a little bit more and to keep going.”

“It’s a massive boost from a frustrating night,” he said. “One of the best nights we ever had, that’s how football is.

“But we have to make sure we use these two days really well. The last two games we got six points, but we have to improve.

“It will not be that Everton open up for us now. We know it will be tough so we have to be ready.”

“He’s a fantastic boy,” added Klopp on Carvalho. “We changed pretty much everything, we went very offensive orientated but he can also play there. If a boy is as good as he is then he needs the moment.

“It’s a massive result, which we will remember it for years and years. We had a 3-2 win at Newcastle once where Divock Origi scored late. I’m not 100 per cent sure they all believed until the end – but from now on we have to as we showed again it is possible.”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, who called Carvalho’s winner a “very painful” moment for his side, defended their approach to the second half at Anfield, having played almost 24 hours after Liverpool at the weekend.

He said: “It’s a Premier League game, there’s so much at stake. We had players who were fatigued, we had one day less to recover than Liverpool, we’ve given everything to every game we’ve had so far. There was no gamesmanship from our perspective, it was just tired bodies.

“In the second half we wanted to slow the game down, they wanted to quicken it up, so it was a natural frustration against two polar-opposite needs.”

He added: “As I am sat here I have no idea [why two minutes extra were played]. It seemed the final whistle would never come but we needed to defend the final situation better than we did. It is a cruel game.”

On the game itself, in which Newcastle came within inches of taking another point against one of last season’s title contenders after holding Man City already this season, Howe said: “I am really proud of the players, and proud of the commitment but that is very painful.

“When you are in the lead here naturally it becomes a different game. You have to defend very well, I don’t think they had many clear-cut chances but that last-minute goal was a heartbreaker.”

There was plenty of reaction with a Newcastle coach spotted throwing ‘object’ at members of the Liverpool bench leading to a mass confrontation…

@page_torin: Added time until Liverpool score then?

@ST3Vl3: @MerseyPolice I’d like to report a robbery 👀

@jimknowlson: where did the time come from?

@Codyls710: Ur team were on the floor for 3 of the 5, cry

@19KhanIm: Don’t want so much added time??? Don’t go down every 2 seconds faking an injury. See ya.

@Giffen1996: 90+5. Scores in the 98th…. Because Newcastle do fuckall except go down. Nick pope down for a good 2 mins getting treatment, Joelinton basically sleeping on the ground with cramp. Lucky it was only 98 played

@jonnyoutlaw: All this whinging about @LFC pulling it out, the refs were suspect for sure, the Newcastle players were flopping more than fish out of water. But let’s not get it twisted, this isn’t just a Liverpool thing. This happens constantly in this sport! Period! Liverpool won! That’s it!

@richy78112843: It’s alright Liverpool and city will ALWAYS need their twelfth man to help them win game no matter what happens! Clearly rules don’t mean shit when it comes to them we’ve known this for the last couple of seasons now. We move forward #nufc

@AndrewHaynes72: If joelinton wouldn’t have rolled about on the floor in injury time then Newcastle wouldn’t have lost, poetic justice

@CharlieCosgr0ve: Right in front of the Geordie lot as well. Fully deserved.

@JFitzy26: Time wasting and feigning injury after injury will always deserve this

@WilliamsKevin: I personally thought it was good refereeing. Don’t see much point in giving added time for time wasting if they then allow the team to waste even more time in added time. #livnew

@jonhotspur88: State of Klopp and his back room staff. Zero class. Can you imagine the gurning bell piece if they conceded in the 98th minute when the ref had said 5 minutes added time? They’d have petitions and all sorts.

@TheKopSings: They spent the entire game going down with cramp to lose in the 98th minute. Karma 😘
