A witness speaks on Raheem Sterling’s crash while a close source to the footballer says he’s been made to feel ‘worthless’.
The former England international was pulled over by police this week, suspected of driving under the influence of drugs having allegedly been involved in a road collision.
Hampshire Police said to The Sun: “Just before 9am on Thursday, we received reports that a Lamborghini was in collision with barriers on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange.
“No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.
“The driver, a 31-year-old man, from Berkshire, has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. He has been bailed while our enquiries continue.”

The witness told, The Sun: “Just after I got on the M3 westbound I saw a Lamborghini swerving.
“He nearly crashed into the left-hand barrier. He was drifting left into the hard shoulder and almost crashed. I thought there was something up with this guy.
“By this point I’d gone past him in the fast lane and he nearly went into the side of me on the inside lane so I beeped him.
“As I’m looking at him I don’t even think he could hear me beeping.
“He didn’t even acknowledge me beeping. I could just make out a young guy with a white vest on.
“Once I was past him the swerving got much worse. As I got off at the Minley junction (4A) and I was merging left to go over the flyover bridge, he came flying down on my outside.
“He was going fast on the wrong side of the road over the bridge, so four or five cars had to pull over to get out of his way.
“I was still looking in my mirrors because it was inevitable he was going to crash.
“When I was going slowly, he nearly went into the back of me.
“He cut in front of me and then veered left into a barrier and hit the front left of his vehicle and the tyres went about 4ft into the air.
“The car spun about 180 degrees. He would have kept going I’m sure if he hadn’t hit his wheels.
“I was shocked when I found out it was Raheem Sterling at the wheel. I couldn’t believe it. The roads were pretty busy as it was half-term so lots of people were out and about to enjoy the nice weather.”
A source close to Sterling said: “It’s been an extremely tough couple of years for him and this incident encompasses that.
“At a time when his ex-colleagues are preparing for the World Cup, he can only watch from afar.
“He has always leant into meditation and other mindfulness tactics, but has recognised a need for greater support.
“He endeavours to be the greatest father and partner he can be, so this has devastated him.
“He was a prolific international who steered the England squad to significant heights over the last decade and has been made to feel worthless.
“The psychological strain that has put on him is immeasurable.
“He feels isolated. The second he touches a ball, he’s told he’s a flop and he’s finished. He’s been mocked and heckled.
“He moved to the Netherlands to escape and rediscover his love for the game, but the negativity followed. It’s been extremely tough.”
Carl Anka spoke on why Raheem Sterling has been treated ‘unfairly’ throughout his career by his clubs and the media.
Carl said: “The money doesn’t the money doesn’t immunise and also very specifically Raheem Sterling the quite frankly disgraceful treatment he had in sections of the British media that criticised Raheem Sterling himself said he gets criticised for shopping at Poundland. He gets criticised when he shops at Waitrose. What do you want from him?
“He’s he has unfairly been targeted for various reasons and and I think at this current point in time I would warn against having any sort of glee at the presumed downfall of a person.
“I hope there’s good people around Raheem Sterling and he can find whatever he needs to find and he can go and continue his career be it in Italy or if he decides to retire.
“I want nothing but the best for Raheem Sterling and I hope he gets through this.
On if he felt unfairly treated as a young affluent black man, Carl added: “Yes. I mean if we go back to when he is a Manchester City player and then he went to Stamford Bridge and he was racially abused by Chelsea fans and the very next day he made a social media post and he said I don’t really mind about the racist abuse I deal with. That’s fine.
“But what he did do is he turned the camera back on us the British media and the reception that a young black player in City’s academy got for buying his parents a house compared to a young white player, and he said, “Please pay attention to either the unconscious bias or the very conscious bias we have and the perception we do and the treatment we give to young black players.”
“And I think ever since then, he has always been a lightning bolt. He was a huge lightning bolt in the English media when he made the switch from Liverpool to Manchester City. There was this idea that he was some sort of I believe one headline described him as a footballing idiot, which was remarkable in that no one plays for Pep Guardiola if you’re an idiot. He’s one of the most intelligent football players in the English football scene.
“I think his campaign at Euro 2020 is one of the best tournament campaigns from an England player of the 21st century. In my opinion, he was the player of the tournament.
“The problem is that he is 31 in footballing years. He has played so much football, I mean watching him at Chelsea, one of the things was the big thing about him at Manchester City was he used to constantly run in behind.
“He used to constantly attack the back post and then Chelsea was very much receive defeat and you’re like oh right he’s having to change and he’s having to play and I watched some games with him at final and unfortunately that burst of pace wasn’t there and he’s had to adjust and he’s always been resilient.
“But unfortunately he has been put through so many things and come out the other side and shown his mental resilience and it seems that this is a point in his life where for some reason he couldn’t quite bounce back in the way he wants and I want him to bounce back in the once because I believe in Raheem Sterling.”
