Raheem Sterling pleads guilty to dangerous driving after crashing Lamborghini

Footballer Raheem Sterling pleads guilty to dangerous driving on a motorway after crashing a Lamborghini back in May 2026.

The 31 year old had also admitted possession of nitrous oxide and failing to provide a specimen at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

He was pulled over by police, suspected of driving under the influence of drugs having allegedly being involved in a road collision.

As can be seen in dash cam footage, Sterling swerved his vehicle between lanes, while witnesses recall seeing him inhaling balloons, with police received multiple reports about erratic driving.

Raheem, who is currently without a club, is on unconditional bail, and court heard how he told police he had a problem with nitrous oxide, but his barrister said he’s taken steps to address this.

Sterling has also been disqualified from driving, and will be back in court in November where faces potentially being given a prison sentence.

Hampshire Police said to The Sun: “Just before 9am on Thursday, we received reports that a Lamborghini was in collision with barriers on the M3 southbound, close to the Minley Interchange.

“No other vehicles were involved and no injuries were reported.

“The driver, a 31-year-old man, from Berkshire, has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs, driving dangerously, possession of a Class C drug and failing to provide a specimen. He has been bailed while our enquiries continue.”

A source close to him said: “He was a prolific English international who has steered the England squad to significant heights over the last decade and has been made to feel worthless and forgotten about in recent years. The psychological strain that has put on him is immeasurable.”

Kelvin MacKenzie, an editor of The Sun, tweeted: “In a strange aside, presumably to explain why Raheem Sterling, 31, crashed his Lamborghini into the barriers of the M3 and was arrested for drug driving, possessing a class C drug and failing to provide a specimen, a source close to the footballer said he had a “hellish” couple of years.

“True his £325K a week pay at Chelsea had fallen to £23K a week with Feyeonord but that’s an odd description of hell.

“If some of that hell would head my way I’d be delighted.”

In the video of his arrest, the following is heard:

Officer: There’s something stuck in the driver’s… you can put that down mate. you can put that down. Drop your stuff. Okay, just jump out of car for me. Under section 172 of the Road Traffic Act, I’m bestowed the power by the Chief Constable of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary to make a request of you to tell me the name and address of the person driving this vehicle at the time of the collision. The investigation that I’m looking at is dangerous driving. OK?

“And driving whilst I’m fit to do so for a drink or drugs. Failure to provide the name and address of that person is offence which you could be prosecuted for. OK? Who was the driver at the time and what’s name and address?”

Raheem: “Can I just make a call?”

Officer: “No, you can tell me who that is because that’s an offence. Who was the person driving at that time? So you’re refusing to answer? Based on that reason, jump out of the car for me. Jump out of car. You was you, was it?”

Officer: What’s your name?

Raheem: Raheem.

Officer: Raheem, what’s your surname?

Raheem: Sterling.

Officer: Lovely, what’s your date of birth?

Raheem: 8th of the 12th, 1993.

Officer: Right, Raheem. Time is, just put your phone down. Where? Give me your phone, stop playing games. Time is 9.15, I am arresting you on suspicion of driving, what some fit to do to you for a drink or drugs and dangerous driving.

“With that being said, you do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence. Stop tensing up.

Raheem: “I’m not tensing”

Officer: “Put your arm behind your back then. Put your arm behind your back.

“With that being said, you do not have to anything that may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioning something which you later rely on in court.

“Anything you do say may be given in evidence. Necessity for your arrest is for for a property-infected investigation, okay, and also to prevent any further damage or loss to property, because you’ve damaged your vehicle, and to prevent any harm or injury to any persons.”
