What Gareth Bale had to say on the Cardiff and Plymouth takeover bid speculation

We take a look at what Gareth Bale had to say on the reported Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle takeover bid speculation.

The 35 year old Welshman spoke about remaining hopeful that a bid he is involved with to buy Cardiff City will succeed.

An investment group involving Gareth Bale made an initial enquiry earlier in June for his hometown club, which was rejected by owner Vincent Tan.

He also was asked about the Telegraph initially linking him to a takeover of fellow League One side Plymouth Argyle, take a look below…

Speaking on the red carpet at the premiere for F1: The Movie, he said to Sky Sports: “We are interested in getting Cardiff. It’s my home club, it’s where I grew up and my uncle used to play for them.

“To be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.

“It [Cardiff] is a club close to my heart. It’s where I grew up and I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.

“I know how amazing the Welsh fans and Cardiff fans are. It would be amazing to try and do something together.

“”It’s something I’m a part of. We are trying to engage with Cardiff and more news will come out on that in the future but hopefully we can get something done.”

Cardiff haven’t addressed on the reports of any bid for the club, but it is understood the proposal did not reach boardroom discussion stage.

Bale, whose uncle Chris Pike played for Cardiff between 1989 and 1993, had been linked with a move to Cardiff as a player in the build-up to the 2022 World Cup.

However, he instead decided to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC and retired from football in January 2023.

“I can’t really say too much but what I can say is we are interested in getting Cardiff and obviously it’s my home club, where I grew up, my uncle used to play for them,” Bale added.

“So yeah to be involved with an ownership group would be a dream come true.

“It’s a club close to my heart, it’s where I grew up. I would love to be able to be a part of growing Cardiff and taking it to the Premier League where it belongs.

“I know how amazing the Welsh fans, the Cardiff fans are and it would be amazing to try and do stuff together.”

Bale also dismissed the claims that he was in for Plymouth, as he told talkSPORT: “I have no idea where Plymouth came from to be honest with you.

“It’s always been Cardiff that we’re trying to get and being from Cardiff I’m very passionate, I see how passionate the Wales and Cardiff fans are.

“It’s an interesting time, an exciting time, and hopefully something can be done.”

Here’s how fans reacted after what Gareth Bale had to say on the Cardiff and Plymouth takeover bid speculation…

@SamDown93: My (probable) take is he did talk to Argyle and intentionally leaked it but only to bounce Cardiff into action – hence Percy rushing to the story. Don’t think throwing abuse at JP is fair or warranted. Especially when he’s almost ways right.

@pafc_brad: We will never get new investors 😂 not in the billions anyway #pafc

@__Wadders: @JPercyTelegraph do you still stick by your story?

@ArgyleBoyo: @JPercyTelegraph apologise to the plymouth fanbase if you’ve got anything about you, I got lots of flack and dms from people for daring to question your article…

@J47015: Another normal day for Argyle….. Never gonna have a normal day

@Element_M1ller: It was nice to dream for 24 hours or so, but why couldn’t Parkinson just say “Nah it’s bullshit” when questioned. Rather than the political answer and saying we don’t comment on speculation #pafc

@A150955: I didn’t think i could love this bloke any more than i do. I was incorrect 😍❤️

@hullyboy1: @CardiffCityFC come on then!

@RichLew82: Straight from the horses mouth. #BaleIn #TanOut

@Morgs2140: “go find a rich Welshman“ well……

@JoshColeWilkins: Vincent, mate please. Not 100% convinced by American ownership but I’ll honestly take anything

@joshcraven_: it was really nice whilst it lasted #pafc
