Solihull Moors bring in a former Wolves, Birmingham, Shrewsbury player in David Davis, a surprise loan signing from Forest Green Rovers.
The 31-year old midfielder has had a limited amount of playing time this season, so has moved down the English football pyramid back to non league level.
Davis describes himself as “the type of player who likes to break things down and do what I call the ‘nitty-gritty’. I like to get stuck in and work hard”.
He prides himself on “ball-winning ground-covering defensive midfield work”; his major contribution to his team comes from “flying around midfield winning the ball and disrupting the opposition”.
His former manager Lee Clark suggested he looks best when using his power and strength and keeping his use of the ball simple, while Dean Saunders mentioned his “winning mentality” while Birmingham Mail’s Brian Dick adds “when Blues are down no-one leads by example quite as much as Davis”.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Solihull Moors are delighted to announce the signing of David Davis on loan until the end of the season from Forest Green Rovers.
The 31-year-old holding midfielder is well-known in the Midlands, most notably for his spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City.
Davis began his career at Molineux, making 53 league appearances for Wolves, with seven of those coming in the Premier League.
He then made thew switch across the Midlands to St Andrews where he remained for six-and-a-half-years becoming a cult hero at Blues. In his time at the club he totalled 194 appearances, scoring eleven goals in all competitions.
A key player in the midfield, Davis was a regular under managers such as Gianfranco Zola and Gary Rowett, and was recognised by players and supporters as Player of the Season in 2017.
After his release from Blues in 2021, the tough-tackler joined League One side Shrewsbury Town where he remained for 18 months, before joining Forest Green Rovers in the summer of 2022.
This season he’s featured 17 times across all competitions, including 12 in League One. His season has been hampered by injury between October and December, but he now links up with Neal Ardley’s side hungry as ever.
“Can’t wait to get going, obviously I met the gaffer last week and it was pretty simple for me; as soon as I saw the facilities and the gaffer, I knew I wanted to come,” Davis said following his first training session with the club.
Touching more on the facilities at Moors’ Studley training base, Davis added: “As soon as I came here I was impressed by everything, it’s really, really high end. I think the club deserves to be a lot higher and if we can make a play-off push, then great!
“I spoke with Harry Boyes who was with me at Forest Green and he couldn’t speak highly enough of the club, then coming and actually seeing it for myself it was a no brainer for me.”
The midfielder was full of praise for manager Neal Ardley throughout his first interview with the club, and that mutual respect was replicated by the Moors boss.
“He’s a winner and everything I’ve felt that we’ve needed for a while,” said Ardley.
“We’ve got a lot of box-to-box midfielders and with Davis he wants to do the ugly side of the game, I think he’ll compliment all of those players very well.
“With the games we’ve got coming up and him in the engine room, we feel like we’ve got a lot more options now and he’s a great character to have around the place as well.”
Welcome to Moors, David!
