The Hammers come into the game off a 2-1 home win against Aston Villa on Monday. The London Stadium has rarely felt like a happy home for the Hammers, but West Ham have made their often polarising home feel more of a fortress in recent times, and were celebrating in the second minute as Ogbonna took advantage of some poor Villa defending to head in Bowen’s corner.

Jack Grealish equalised midway through the opening period, adding his 10th goal involvement in nine games with a trademark run from deep before beating Lukasz Fabianski from 20 yards courtesy of an unfortunate deflection off Ogbonna.

28 seconds into the second half, half-time substitute Said Benrahma crossed for Bowen to nod West Ham back in front for the 3 points.

Manchester United come into the game having fought back from two goals down at halftime to secure a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory as Edinson Cavani’s double rescued Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at Southampton.

It has undoubtedly been an inauspicious start to the season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, but after a quarter of the season they are still only five points off the top of the table with a game in hand, and victory this weekend would lift them up into the top four temporarily at least.

Up to 2,000 supporters will be permitted to attend a fascinating contest between two sides separated by four places but just one point in the Premier League table.

The last time these two clubs faced off resulted in a 1-1 draw in a Premier League tie at Old Trafford…

PRESS CONFERENCE:

David Moyes

On team news

Micky is out for tomorrow, we don’t know how long he will be out for. He is still having a bit of a problem with his hamstring. It’s not the same injury, we think it is slightly different. In the main we have a fully fit squad.

On fans coming back…

We’ve been waiting for months. We have been so pleased with results, staying up, obviously we have had a good start this season too. Overall, it’s a start. We have a great stadium and hopefully it won’t be long until we can fill it all.

On Momentum + [possibility of] four wins in a row….

What we want to do is keep getting better, make progress. The players have played so well since the first lockdown when we had nine games in six weeks but importantly, the players have kicked on again since then.

On a new contract…

We have not had any contract talks.

More on the fans

It’s been really strange without fans but it might be even stranger with 2000 in a 60,000 seater stadium! It’s a start, the club has done a great job with making everything safe. It’s great, I’m a football supporter and it’ll be great.

On the good start

I take satisfaction with the league position. Sometimes I haven’t started seasons well but I think for West Ham to get off to a good start, not many people were expecting that. We have got a hungry group of players, keen to improve. I want to get back to the values of the club but we have some work to do before we get there.

On answering critics…

I don’t think I had to answer critics but as a football manager you have to prove yourself. I have had nearly 1000 games as a manager and a level of longevity. To get that amount of games, I must be doing something right.

Main difference fans will notice

I hope they recognise a more energetic and committed team but get players playing in their best position. I have really good competition. I want them to come back to an air of positivity, the team are showing it in training and the atmosphere in the dressing room is terrific.

On Solskjaer – any sympathy with the constant critics?…

The biggest compliment I can give Ole is that he is managing what I think is the biggest club in the world. I didn’t win enough games in my time there but there were some mitigating circumstances. Ole will understand it even better than me and I think that at big clubs, it is difficult. Ole wouldn’t want me to feel sorry for him, he’ll know I’ll be doing everything I possibly can to beat him.

On consistent form

I think that if you took the nine games we had in lockdown and this period, nearly 20 games, I think our consistency has been very good. I hope it continues, the idea is to get a level where we think we can build on it, grow on it, we are drumming it into the players with their standards and levels for the game. We have got a resilience.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

On Marcus Rashford injury update…

“Marcus has been training this morning, not fully but he joined in with the group. His shoulder stopped him finishing the game so he’s been getting treatment and hopefully he’ll be part of the squad that travels, we’ll see after training.”

On playing in front of fans…

“It’ll be great playing in front of fans, looking forward to it, won’t have our fans there but will have to use the energy and thrive off the home fans and make them quiet and edgy, we’re looking forward to it. It’s great to see fans back in a stadium, hopefully we’ll get them back at Old Trafford soon. Football is not the same without them. We’re a bit bruised after Wednesday night.”

On United’s consistency…

“Depends on how many games do you wanna go back, football is a game with human beings and live their own lives, we’ve played some fantastic games, go 40 games back we’re one of the most consistent in the Premier League.

“You’re disappointed when you lose and it’s fine margins at times that decide if you win or lose, the PSG game was miles better than West Brom, but you don’t get three points against PSG, we’re getting more more, less bad performances and getting more consistent. You can never control the result in the end, that’s decided by fine margins.”

On top four…

“Of course it would be for all sorts of reasons, we know we’ve got a game less and hope we get that back at some point as well, and with pre-season being as short as it was to move closer to the top would be a great achievement at this point and we’ve shown some great consistency away from home lately and hope we can continue that.”

On Moyes

“No, I haven’t sat down and had discussions with David, no, when you’re here it’s the biggest club in the world and a different animal to anything else but we’ve had other discussions and I really admire David and you see the way West Ham perform and the results he’s getting shows his qualities.”

On Cavani…

“Last season we were the youngest team in the Premier League and have been looking at ways to improve the squad, young talent or experienced ones and with the signings of Bruno, Donny and Alex and Edinson the balance of the squad has been improved and his positioning.

“He’s a different type of centre forward, he can play a different way and his experience in world-football, he’s come in and shown the young lads how to live your life and last your career.”

On Pellistri and Diallo

“Facundo has come in trained with the first-team, he’s done well, we felt now is time for him to get game time, he played a couple of games in reserves, gradually settled in nicely and is more used to us.

“Amad has come on a few times for Atalanta and is a very exciting talent and hopefully we’ll get the work permit and he’ll be with us in January. He’s a very, very exciting boy as well.”

THATSAGOAL TIP:

Edinson Cavani Anytime Goalscorer – 13/8 with FanTeam

A bit-part player since joining up with the Red Devils, Edinson Cavani is now making a strong case to be Solskjaer’s starting striker. His impact off the bench was remarkable last weekend scoring a brace and assisting another as United overturned a 2-0 deficit to steal a 3-2 win.

Cavani was denied a goal against his former employers in midweek by the width of the crossbar but looks sharp despite the lack of first-team action. West Ham are flying high but Manchester United always have it in them to breach the opposition’s defence.
