West Ham fans display ‘Moyes Out’ banner and Nottingham Forest fans mock Kalvin Phillips

A group of West Ham fans took to display a ‘Moyes Out’ banner and Nottingham Forest fans decided to mock Kalvin Phillips.

Goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Callum Hudson-Odoi earned Nottingham Forest a 2-0 victory over West Ham; this became Forest’s first Premier League win of 2024, to see them move five points clear of the drop zone.

Kalvin Phillips also ended up getting sent off as his nightmare start to Hammers career continues, picking up two bookings in the space of four minutes to receiving marching orders.

As Phillips walked off the pitch, Forest fans could be heard singing “You dirty Yorkshire bastard!”, as can be seen in the clip below…

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo, speaking to Premier League Productions: “I think we played a very good game. Defensively we were very aggressive, really close to the West Ham players. We played good, we created chances, we scored, I think we controlled the game really well.

On whether the result should have been more comfortable: “I think the team were well-organised, we felt we were in control of the game. Having one man more made the difference, but we controlled even though the West Ham set pieces are so dangerous. Congratulations to the players and the fans, especially to the amazing fans at the City Ground.”

On the importance of getting a clean sheet: “It’s the improvement we expect from these players. We have to be strong in defence, everything comes from there.”

On the Neco Williams penalty appeal: “I saw the image, it was so clear. Everybody is not understanding what’s going on with VAR. If we see it then why didn’t it give help to the referee.”

On whether he would have liked the referee to go to the monitor and see it: “Yeah, probably. For sure he would change his mind after seeing the image, it was so clear, it was so obvious. They should ask themselves ‘why’. If they see the same thing me and you saw, I think it was very obvious. Let’s be supportive but have better decisions.”

On Forest’s disallowed goal: “I didn’t see it, I can’t give an opinion.”

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I thought the players responded incredibly well, they showed character, a lot of courage at different times of the game. It was a tight Premier League game. We played well going through the thirds and it was in the final third where we struggled and made poor decisions in poor opportunities to score goals. The players did a great job.”

On keeping fighting despite going down to 10 men: “I felt when it was 10 it made it much more difficult but the game was tight. Nottingham Forest are in a relegation battle and trying to get out of it. I know what it’s like, every game, every point is so important, especially your home games. They made it tough for us as well. I thought in many ways we did a lot of good things, probably just the final third let us down.

On Kalvin Phillips’ red card: “They’ve told me it’s a bit tight, the two boots come together. Might be a wee bit of overreaction ont he second yellow. If you push someone then you can be booked. The rules are you’re not supposed to stand in the way of the ball and we were trying to play quickly. In truth, I can’t say too much becuase it was two yellows and we can’t argue with that.”

On Phillips’ performance: “I thought he played much better, his whole performance was much better. Suddenly the bookings came from nowhere in a short period. The team had done some good things as well and he was part of it.”

Moyes, on failing to score in the last three games: “We’re missing a really important player in Lucas Paqueta but we don’t want to hang it all on him. We’ve not looked as potent in recent weeks as we otherwise have done. We had to change things up to get through January but the last three games have been disappointed that we’ve not scored more goals.”

On the ‘Moyes out’ banners in the away end: “I’m really disappointed that we didn’t win today and I’m really disappointed with a couple of results. But you mustn’t forget the good results, you mustn’t forget the wins even this season. We’re sitting in a strong position, last season we were sitting near the bottom. It was only three years ago that we were Nottingham Forest and fighting relegation. We’ve moved on a long way from there.”

Here’s how users on Twitter reacted as West Ham fans display ‘Moyes Out’ banner and Nottingham Forest fans mock Kalvin Phillips…

@_DROBSZN: Get him out now

@WestHamJoshV: Can’t recall a player on loan starting so badly than Kalvin Phillips has started at West Ham. Going so badly it’s almost laughable after only 4 games. Only benefit of him getting sent off is the team doesn’t have to suffer him for a game.

@WestHamJoshV: It’s not just the defeat against one of the worst teams in the league, it’s the fact that it doesn’t come as a surprise whatsoever. In terms of actual playing football, West Ham are up there with the worst in the league. Completely directionless.

@danwoff98: Shocking again. No intensity or fight for starters which are the basics of football. Embarrassing.

@cedesparisse: If there was any chance we were able to keep Paqueta, Kudus etc. in the summer we’ve well and truly ruined it by keeping Moyes. Why would any elite player want to stay/come to this club? Regardless if we get rid of him tonight, it’s too late. We’re back to square one.

@whuchr: 1-0 down at HT so we have 2 shots on target in the second half. Embarrassing.

@BenjaminJNewman: Phillips sacrificing himself for Moyes out. Legend.

@whudjo: Where have the “but we’re 6th” clowns gone

@WestHamRambles: Excellent response to being tonked 6-0. What a motivator Mr Moyes is!

@DiCanioVolley: When the football is dreadful but we are nicking results then it’s bearable. Dreadful to watch but it’s a results business so we go home fairly happy. But we offer DREADFUL football and now don’t even get results. For how much longer do we have to put up with this crap?

@danwestham1: can’t wait for Moyes standard response when under pressure. “west ham fans need to realise under me how great it’s been, this is a temp blip and we’ve seen some great games this season and we will strive to get back, this isn’t how i set my teams up” do one #moyesout

@rickwhufc: #MoyesIn fanboys, Serious question, please explain to me what you’re seeing every week that keeps him in his job? There HAD to be a reaction from the players today & they put in that absolute shitshow. They’ve give up on playing his dross week in week out. Sack him tonight

@CockneyBri: Listen to your supporters. Sack Moyes, we’ve had enough and are sick of his anti football.

@Charlotteehip: Shocking, our only signing of January transfer window getting sent off. Moyes doesn’t know his arse from his elbow and another 3 points lost. Fucking football, can’t be arsed.

@eisenbae: Antonio back to remind us all why we don’t want to see Antonio out there. Surprisingly bad game from Kudos, totally smothered. Both goals from Aguerd errors. Cornet cannot be on the pitch ever again. Normal incompetence from the officials. Bleak but we’re on to the next. ⚒️
