West Brom supporter Daniel Tudge appeals for fans to boycott attending matches at Hillsborough after a medical emergency in the stands.
At the time, hundreds of fans in the away end urged stewards and medical staff for assistance in the upper tier.
Fans also chanted ‘stop the game’ during the incident, however it continued, then medics treated the supporter before moving them out of the stand and when into the concourse. Sadly the supporter who was taken ill had died.
More and more of those who watched on were left traumatic by the whole experience, taking to social media to address the situation, speaking about what happened, worried about the next time this or something similar happens in the away end of future matches…

He said in a video posted to Twitter: “So sorry. It’s morning after the game. I have to say something, especially for those and everybody in that end yesterday will totally understand where I’m coming from with this.
“This is an appeal to all other EFL Championship clubs who have a game of Sheffield Wednesday this season. For the rest of the season, boycott it because you are not safe. You can go in that end and you will not be safe.
“They will not get medical help to you as quick as possible. And that’s all you’d like, is to feel safe when you go to an away end. It was disgraceful.
“Now, let’s make it clear. There were two stewards crying their eyes out, doing as much as they can. Their management were not helping them sort the situation. It was not good enough. We had one Albion fan doing her best to try and save that man’s life. Nobody else.
“So, please, if you’ve got tickets, hey, they’re 40 quid a pop anyway, so if it’s in your mind. For what? Expensive? No, don’t go. Right. If you have to go to every game, go in the home end. I’m hoping Sheffield Wednesday fans would actually give you a round of applause because you still want to support your team and they will support you and understand why you do not feel safe to go in that away end where you will be ignored.
“A thousand people waving and calling for medics and they ignore you. They look at you like, oh, what’s going on? Oh, alright. Hey, now, we all saw that.
“A Wednesday fan dancing along as well and taking a piss. She’ll feel bad enough this morning, I hope, because now she knows what really happened. She just didn’t understand the situation at the time, I’m assuming. So let’s get behind this.
“Chelsea, proud of you for doing your best. Sorry for the family. I know it’s hard to hear that the best it might have out, but you like to think everybody did all they could and that didn’t happen. That didn’t happen. People were too slow to react. And ignoring fans, assuming we were causing trouble.”
Chelsea, an off duty paramedic, was praised for her actions, she responded to Baggie Steve who spoke of his brother who had fallen ill and died.
chels x @chelsleighjones: “Hi Steve, I was the off duty paramedic that tried to help – I’m so sorry for your loss and my thoughts and prayers go to you all. I think Deb has passed you my number. Feel free to contact me at any time. Again I’m so so sorry ☹️💙”
Jed Wallace tweeted: “Today is a very sad day for our club. RIP to the supporter who heartbreakingly lost their life in the away end today. As a squad we send our love & condolences to his family 😢💙”
Daniel Tudge replied: “Jed I would love you to do something for @chelsleighjones, An Albion fan who tried her best to help. I know you will be doing something for the deceased as a club. Fingers crossed you read this”

Scott Cain organised a fundraiser to help the family of the fan who died, he wrote: “Hi my name is Scott cain and today my team Sheffield Wednesday beat West Brom 3-2 at home Hillsborough. However after the game the sad news has been brought to our attention that a West Bromwich Albion fan travelling to watch his beloved team play as sadly passed away . On behalf of all football fans my heart is broken for the family and friends in this horrendous situation and I would just like to try and raise as much money as possible for the family at this sad time . WAWAW UP THE ALBION.

@Johnpjmoo: Well said mate 💙🤍
@rjdowning: Well said Dan I was sat at the opposite side of the stand to where it all unfolded yesterday. Just glad I did not witness the upsetting scenes hope the club award Chelsea for trying to save the poor man’s life
@DougDexta: Very sad what happened to the man who died yesterday. Unrelated directly but I said last season that away end does not feel safe, the access/exit is a narrow opening at one end on the lower tier and everyone is pushing and shoving like a stampede. Sort it out #owls
