West Brom fans in sold out away end mock Stoke by belting out chant at full time

West Brom fans in a sold out away end decided to mock Stoke by belting out a chant at full time after the Baggies 2-1 victory on Saturday.

The travelling supporters were in a cheeky mood as they were kept in the ground following the final whistle. They took aim at Stoke and their fans who were making their way for the exits.

West Brom took the lead 18 minutes in when Tom Fellows beat his man down the right, lopped a lovely ball over the keeper, and saw Karlan Grant nodding the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Stoke levelled through Lewis Koumas on the 30 minute mark, but West Brom hit back quick to retake the lead, Darnell Furlong played in Fellows, who cut back to Maja, and his effort went straight into the bottom corner.

We may be early into the 2024/25 Championship season, but looking at the table after 3 games played, West Brom sit 4th with 7 points, winning 2 and drawing 1, while Stoke are 17th with 3 points, winning 1 and losing the other two.

Stoke City: Johansson, Tchamadeu (Moran 60′), Wilmot, Gibson, Bocat, Laurent, Thompson (Burger 70′), Manhoef (Ennis 81′), Junho (Mmaee 70′), Gooch (Baker 82′), Koumas

Subs: Burger, Baker, Ennis, Mmaee, Moran, Phillips, Fielding, Tezgel, Dixon

West Brom: Palmer, Furlong, Ajayi, Bartley, Heggem, Molumby (Diakité 86′), Mowatt, Fellows (Wallace 69′), Swift (Frabotta 85′), Grant (Diangana 69′), Maja

Subs: Wallace, Diangana (Dobbin 82′), Taylor, Diakité, Dobbin, McNair, Wildsmith, Frabotta, Cole

“Today, we played against a team which finished in the top six last season and the performance wasn’t something be too despondent about,” Stoke boss Steven Schumacher said per the club website.

“We know where we are at, we know the points we need to get to if we’re to finish in the position we are aiming for.

“We have two more games in the first block of five to get the points we require and that is what I just said to the lads after the game, they need to keep their heads up, stay positive and get ready to go on Tuesday at Middlesbrough before a huge game at Argyle next weekend.

“I’m gutted to not get something from the game. I felt it was so close, there wasn’t anything in it.

“I said to the players before the game that we had to come out on top of the duel percentages, and we did that.

“We asked them to be creative and to get into good areas and we got into some brilliant positions but unfortunately hit the post twice and didn’t score from the rebound on the first occasion.

“Small margins determine Championship games and West Brom have come out on top of those.

“It was a great goal from Lewis, a lovely run as well.

“That is why we decided to play him down the middle.

“I like number nines who play off the shoulder and get towards the opposition’s goal because it creates space for creative players in front of them.

“His movement was brilliant, it was a lovely pick out from Million [Manhoef] and a great finish too.

“On another day, he could have had a hat-trick, he was unlucky not to go away with the match ball.”

West Brom’s Carlos Corberan said, per wba.co.uk: “It’s always positive to achieve the result you want to achieve.

“I have to give a lot of credit to the players because they’ve shown a lot of commitment with the game, they have played with personality, they’ve suffered when we had to suffer but, in the end, they have deserved that result.

“We scored our first goal through Karlan Grant and then we had two chances to improve our advantage to two goals when Tom Fellows and John Swift had opportunities.

“It was positive after we missed those big chances and they scored their equaliser, to see that level of reaction from the team. We went on to score our second goal.

“The team had belief and it’s really important to see this mentality in the team. After you have a big chance and the opponent equalises, you have to have a big personality to go on and score the second goal that you need.

“It turned out to be our winning goal and we are really pleased about that.

“I think we played better in the second 45 than in the first half. We started with some big chances in the first half, but, at the same time, we suffered more in defence. We didn’t show our level of solidity in defence like we normally do.

“There was an improvement in our behaviours in the second half and we tried to be more aggressive in the moments when we could be aggressive. We needed to put the line of five in to stop their opportunities and to protect the result.

“It’s excellent to achieve the three points in front of our traveling fans. They gave us amazing support from the first minute until the last. It’s always positive for us to show much we want to dedicate the wins for them.

“They can help us so much, both at home and away. They have a massive influence. We feel their support on the pitch and we always have to work hard to give them three points.”

Here’s how fans reacted on Twitter while West Brom fans in the sold out away end mock Stoke by belting out a chant at full time…

@laneyditch: Fantastic win. Always nice to beat them shithouses 🫶🔵⚪️

@AndyfromNewHamp: Great win, bloody wonderful place to win On a shoestring and with a progressive, worldwide smart recruitment we’ve simply improved.. Younger, sharper, faster compared to last yr. Sweet in possession, Fellows wonderful, Heggem a revelation, Mowatt, superb. COYB. In Carlos we Trust

@conradchircop: Important, hard fought win! 7 points from 3 games and a victory at a club that is known to be our bogey team. We lost our first game of the season at least twice at their patch in the past (92/93, 93/94) but thankfully not today.

@lukestokes84: What a result. Quietly going about our business scoring goals good defence and working hard. Lovely. More impressively – players in the team keeping newbies out. Bit more depth and we look good. Magic. COYB

@JackRutterrr: Going to be another one of those seasons.

@LukeJFurnival: Koumas is a special talent. Real player in there.. about the only positive take from today really. Gooch and Junior both wank, nothing new. Should probably spend some money this week shouldn’t we?????

@DaveStubbs14: No intensity, looked knackered. Koumas lively. What’s happened to the free flowing attacking side that finished last season?

@danwba_: Cheers lads for the easy 3 points, you’re fucking shit as well as your fans 👍🏼

@OwenGalbraith98: We are in for a long season

@MmanhoefEra: Same shit different season

@TheStokeStand: Can’t say I’m shocked

@jack_smachin: That’s on you Schumacher

@AndyB73: Awful at times.. thats not promotion football.. thats keeping the team in the championship football.. at a push..

@Ben35481885: Do you ever fill your pisspot of a ground?

@Bateman_Man: Phenomenally shit… again. ⚽️🔴⚪️

@James_David20: Manhoef missing an open goal doesn’t help. But that defence is woeful. Two games in a row now that the midfield has been outclassed. Fullbacks are shite as well
