Wayne Rooney is reportedly ‘fighting to save his job at Plymouth’ ahead of his side’s next two crucial matches against Oxford and Swansea.
The 39 year old is currently under significant pressure at the club following a challenging run of results, including a number of heavy defeats, with the team conceding 10 goals over their last two matches, dropping them to 21st in the Championship standings.
The Telegraph report that current circumstances have heightened the scrutiny surrounding Rooney, who labelled the 4-0 defeat to Bristol City as an embarrassment. See more on that HERE.
It comes on the day that the Plymouth Argyle Cornish Supporters Association get set for a Fans Forum with Plymouth chairman Simon Hallett, with fans intrigued to have their questions answered.
Although there are currently no immediate intentions to initiate a change in management, the upcoming matches against Oxford on Saturday and Swansea the following Tuesday at Home Park are critical for Rooney’s tenure.
Reports also claimed in November that Rooney is to be the subject of a documentary on his time with his current club, but his stay under threat just 20 games in.

Banning people for voicing an opinion really isn’t a good look, uncle Simon @SimonHallett

Wayne Rooney said after defeat to Bristol City: “Embarrassed really. I think that’s probably the right word to use,” said Rooney, after the game.
“I think after what happened on Tuesday at Norwich, we came here with a game plan to be in the game going into the last 20 minutes, and I thought for 50 minutes we were.
“Then we conceded the first goal, and we collapsed. It’s exactly what happened at Norwich, exactly what happened at Leeds away. As soon as we conceded the goal, the players out there collapsed, and we looked very fragile.
“I was trying to make a change; I had Andre [Gray] and Michael {Obafemi] ready to come on, and then [Bristol City] score while they were getting ready to come on to. I was looking to change something because I could feel they were going to score and to get the goal before I can make the change.
“Then, from that moment, I’m just on the side and – I’ve said this to players – I could see them shrinking, I could see it happening in front of me, and that’s very difficult because to make changes and adjust and adapt to that, was difficult for us to do, to put players into that occasion.
“I wanted the players out there to try to show some character and some strength, to help us get back in it. Unfortunately, they never did that.
“It’s just something that’s just very frustrating, very disappointing. When we’re going through this run we’re going through, in other away games, you need to dig deep and find something within you.
“It’s something which you have to do throughout your career. Players, if they want to have the career which you’d hope they want to have, then they need to do that very quickly because they’re not representing this club in the right way.
“We’ve tried different things. I’ve gone at them. I’ve tried to do it with the right balance. I’ve tried to encourage them. Figuring it out and finding that way, that’s my job and ultimately, it’s my responsibility. I take responsibility, of course, for the results. I’m the one picking the team, putting the team out there, but I think for the players now, they need to realise that they have to do a lot better in what they’re doing.
“From the start the season, away from home, we haven’t been good enough. Today’s result, and Tuesday result, is far from anything I want to see.”
A bad week for Wayne Rooney & Plymouth Argyle.

Wayne Rooney slams embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Bristol City; Plymouth fans fight each other
This is how fans reacted with Wayne Rooney ‘fighting to save his job at Plymouth’ ahead of two crucial matches…
@middletoewine: Sacking him before Coleen comes back from the jungle? Poor.
@TAIEpodcast: What do Plymouth expect?? Feel for Rooney, he’s not the best manager is he but Plymouth were favourites to be relegated. He’s not doing too badly.
@argyletweet: What is the point in these next two games? Whether we get 3, 4, or 6 points, Wayne Rooney is one more pasting away from being sacked. We are delaying the inevitable here. #pafc
@PilgrimCas1437: Severe injury crisis – 10 of our first choice players out. No manager is saving us
@will_britnell: Whats classed as a success because if its survival, they are on course to achieve that. 17 points at this stage is fine. Im not a fan of rooney as a manager but sacking him with the club above the bottom 3 or even within touching distance of safety would be a shambolic decision!
@MJ90113368: This is a surprise given his hugely successful record elsewhere
@argyle_analyst: This is the reason why I don’t think the “vote of confidence” from the board would be a good move this week. Now the headline has dropped, this will now dominate the media this week in the build up to a very important game, only raising the pressure #pafc
@RKH4658: As a Norwich fan I would’ve sacked him after our game. Worst @Argyle I’ve seen and certainly the worst team to come to Carrow Road in recent years
@DJ3001_: Is it bad that I want us to lose our next 2 home games?
@CallumCastel7: Who could have possibly foreseen this
@jaleo51: Everyone in the country saw how this appointment was going to pan out. Everyone but Plymouths owners.. Standard case of. Oooo we have managed to get a big name in.
@MattyHC5: Blokes tried his best to make it but just ain’t happening is it
@ATBFooty: Oh Wayne, i don’t think management is your thing lad 🤣 #rooney #Plymouth
@CB_pafc: YELLAS AND SWONSSSSSS
@NikArgyle: If Rooney is fired you have to feel Dewsnip remaining in position becomes untenable. I don’t see how one can go and not the other. Which makes you think: Will a decision be made based on the good of the club or self-preservation? #PAFC
