Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney told BBC Radio Devon:

“It’s a big embarrassment.

“I thought we did ok in the first half and then in the second I could feel them coming at us a bit more and I made changes to try and help us with that.

“But after we conceded the first goal the players collapsed. This is something I have told the players. It was the same at Norwich away and Leeds away.

“When you want to have a career in football you have to dig deep at times, I feel the players showed a lack of character and fight after we conceded the first goal and that was really disappointing.”

Bristol City boss Liam Manning speaking to BBC Radio Bristol:

“In the second half you could feel the relief when we finally scored the first one.

“Credit to the lads for sticking at it, staying calm and not panicking. It epitomises the culture we have here, it’s all about turning up and putting the work in every single day.

“I’m really pleased for Anis (Mehmeti), he’s so driven and I love how I can be honest and tough on him but he then will go and do his best to make it happen.

“I’m delighted he got his goals, it’s great we had everyone chip in today though, we need everyone to turn up and contribute and today was a good example of that.”

Twitter users reacted as Wayne Rooney slams the embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Bristol City; and Plymouth fans fight each other…

@_HansYolo1: -20 goal difference. The team in 12th havenā€™t even conceded 20 goals yet. This is the most embarrassing Argyle squad Iā€™ve ever known.

@ErnestoTheYid:
Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 Plymouth Argyle
Cardiff 5-0 Plymouth Argyle
Leeds 3-0 Plymouth Argyle
Norwich City 6-1 Plymouth Argyle
Bristol City 4-0 Plymouth Argyle
ā€œBut we canā€™t change anything because what exactly will we do after, it wonā€™t change anythingā€
Sack Him.

@Chris_Webb1: Weā€™ve lost 6-1, 5-0, 4-0 and 4-0 away from home already this season and arenā€™t in the relegation zone. How bad must the rest be šŸ¤£ #pafc

@JoeRendle: @SimonHallett any chance you want to actually communicate with the fans? Happy to do so when itā€™s going well which is funny! If Rooney is going nowhere then have the nerve to come out and back him #pafc

@_jackolani7: Far too many weirdos clapping that wank off AGAIN, theyā€™re part of the problem. #pafc

@_cobibudge: Rooney has been dealt a difficult hand by the board and by injuries – but Iā€™d still at least expect the team to play as if theyā€™ve trained together before, to play with a bit of pride, to look semi-competent. Iā€™ve backed him, Iā€™ve defended him, but now Iā€™m not sure. #pafc

@olpafc_: The board took a silly risk. The appointment after foster shouldā€™ve been made with safety and stability in mind. The investment they thought would come in from a PR appointment, hasnā€™t. Pull the trigger and get him gone before itā€™s too late. #pafc

@PAFCConnor2: @SimonHallett come out and say something you fucking coward, where the fuck is the money gone? Quick enough to take the credit when things are going well but go in to hiding when the going gets tough! Same with your puppet master Dewsnip! Enough is enough! #pafc

@Gemmaaa1603: I genuinely donā€™t recognise this club anymore. Above everything weā€™ve always had some grit about us and fought. We had one of the best club-fans rapport in the EFL and now what do we have? A silent chairman, a PR stunt manager and a free pass back to league one? Itā€™s sad.

@MaccaSouth: Shambles. Canā€™t fully blame Rooney, this is more on the board but I think itā€™s time to let bygones be bygones and pick up the phone to Schumacher, with a bit of luck, he will keep us up and hopefully new investors take over from the board in the summer. #pafc

@chubbs_20: Of the 6 games Victor Palsson has started Argyle have conceded 25 goals. He started again today. 10 goals conceded in last 2 games! Rooney selection today questionable! Prepare for League One…. Hallet Thankyou but time to pass the club over #pafc

@CMpafc: Grow a fucking backbone and sack your puppet master and sack Rooney tonight. Youā€™re happy to go on and on when weā€™re winning and doing well but radio silent when itā€™s not going well, youā€™re a sorry excuse of a chairman. @SimonHallett #pafc
