Watford fans aim angry chants at owner with ‘stewards’ wrestling supporter over protest banner

Watford fans aim angry chants at owner Gino Pozzo with ‘stewards’ seen wrestling a supporter over holding and displaying a protest banner.

A number of videos emerged on social media, showing discontent among the fanbase as Watford fell to a 3-2 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town.

Anthony Matthews of Watford Observer summed it up accurately, saying: “A limp display devoid of passion at your biggest rivals is as bad as things can get. Wrong. Watford have plunged their shambolic season to even darker depths, turning Vicarage Road toxic as fans vented their anger at the players and owner Gino Pozzo.”

And you’ve just got to have a look at it below to truly see how much of a mess the club are in, to see how sour the atmosphere has turned…

Watford got the opener on 32 minutes, when Asprilla took the ball on the edge of the area, and delivered a shot hard and low into the net.

Huddersfield took advantage of the wastefulness just before the interval with an equaliser. A cross by Josh Koroma was only half-cleared by Porteous, and Rudoni was able to slot home the loose ball for his first goal for Huddersfield to cap off an impressive first-half display.

It got even better for the visitors 10 minutes after the restart when Matty Pearson headed home a Rudoni free-kick, which led to a loud, angry reaction from the home supporters.

Their misery was complete with Huddersfield’s introduction of Kian Harratt on 81 minutes as the substitute made an immediate impact with a header from close range following a Koroma cross, to delight the away end.

However, Watford gave themselves late hope through substitute Assombalonga, who struck low to make it a nervy ending for Huddersfield.

There was drama right at the end when a melee saw Bachmann dismissed, handed two yellow cards in quick succession, see more on that HERE.

@NorgeChester: This is so sad. My last match was the FA Cup Semifinal. I’ve fallen out of love with football and the club. After following them for nearly 50 years I’m not bothered anymore.

@SeanMoneyMohan: GET OUT OF OUR CLUB

@LeeJackson_1: They aren’t wrong. He’s gotta go. It’s dead on its feet..

@piffpuffpoof: @WatfordFC the way you treated those who challenged your regime is an utter disgrace. Family Club? Diverse? Respectful? Tolerant? You’re none of the above. Shame on you all…oh and the football is shit too. Pozzo’s out #WatfordFC

@marcgalletly:
The atmosphere is toxic.
The board deluded.
The players don’t give a fuck.
Certain supporter groups are only here for personal gain with absolute bullshit stories to get recognised.
The real voices will never get heard.
Apart from that everything is fucking cosmic.
#watfordfc

@olivierlaval27: Loyal fans in full voice !

@wfcCharlie_: I hope on Monday we play the youth even if we lose they’ll try harder #watfordfc #PozzoOut

@AntEvans1: About Time the fans woke up. 10 years of Silence, an Estimated £130mill in debt. A playing side stripped and replaced with Some terrible players, and Every manager blamed and Sacked. It’s a Shambles.

@Pat1975Watty: This is how hateful this club is.

@LivyJamie: Been saying this for fucking ages now… finally people are ready to do something against our board #pozzoout

@andycpenn: What an embarrassment this squad is… sack them all and play the under 21s.

@duzza007: SACK THE LOT 🤬🤬🤬🤬 Honestly nobody from players, to staff to Directors or owners should be here next season, absolutely disgrace. Get out the lot of you!

@keelowfc: A disgrace to the fans. I want a refund on my season ticket.

@HornetHampshire: #pozzoout will only care when sponsors/commercial rev drops. Attendances dropping is just the start. Gino has treated us like customers so perhaps it’s time we treat #Watfordfc like a business & ask are you really getting a return on your time & investment by going each week?

@TheWatfordTy: Chairman telling fans to shut up, fan being ejected for a Pozzo Out banner, players shrugging when being booed off after putting in no effort… GT would be horrified at the state of the club. Totally ruined the family club ethos that he built

@_conbarnes: Graham Taylor would be rolling in his grave the poor bastard #pozzoout

@DrWilkinsonSci: If Pozzos are serious about owning our club and fixing this mess then Giampaolo should come back and sort the mess out. Gino doesn’t have a clue. Otherwise put the club up for sale and **** off. #watfordfc #PozzoOut

@ajobbowfc: 3 wins in 14 games, going all the way back to the 14th Jan when we beat Blackpool 2-0 at the Vic. Sacking Rob Edwards when he clearly wasn’t given enough time, and look where his Luton side are now. Poor recruitment, no desire or effort week in week out. #WatfordFC #PozzoOut

@DanielZealander: Gino Pozzo has ruined what used to be a club connected to the fans and the community, with players who used to care and would want to play for the badge. The club is now soulless and a joke. #pozzoout #watfordfc

@WFCHenry: One of the most toxic atmospheres I’ve ever witnessed as a football fan, and it comes from one single mans attempt to fully ruin a club and it’s fanbase. I hope Pozzo and Duxbury are so proud of what they are creating as games go by. #PozzoOut

@JacobJDeacon: @WatfordFC this is disgusting. I’ve seen tweets from people who were sitting right next to this guy who said he literally did nothing. You’ve ejected him for holding up an inoffensive banner. And for what it’s worth, he’s bang on the money! #pozzoout #watfordfc
