Two yellow cards in a minute with Watford keeper sent off for ‘kung fu kick challenge’

There were two yellow cards in a minute with Watford keeper Daniel Bachmann sent off by the referee for a ‘kung fu kick challenge’.

Huddersfield Town swept aside an indecisive Watford to claim three consecutive victories and move out of the Championship relegation zone.

For the second consecutive week, the Terriers came from behind to continue their remarkable comeback under Neil Warnock and hand the Hornets their first home loss of 2023.

Colombian international Yaser Asprilla had given the home team the lead with his first goal, but Jack Rudoni netted his first for Huddersfield just before half time.

Centre-back Matty Pearson put the visitors ahead and 20-year-old Kian Harratt added a second goal for the club. Britt Assombalonga’s added time strike made for an anxious final minute for the travelling fans.

Watford found themselves in a precarious position late in the match when goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann was dismissed for two yellow cards within one minute. He was then dragged off by Watford staff.

The result means it’s four wins and two draws from nine games for Neil Warnock – with Huddersfield climbing to 20th and a point clear of the bottom three, having been five points adrift of safety when the 74-year-old took over in February.

Watford’s have just one win in their last seven games, leaving them six points from the play-off places with just six games remaining.

Huddersfield Town boss Neil Warnock reflected on third win in a row: “It looks a lot better than it did four weeks ago. You can tell when you’re talking to the players that they’re listening and taking everything in.

“They trust me. I just can’t fault the group of lads, they’ve given me everything.

“I don’t think we’re soft now – we’ve gone to Millwall, Middlesbrough and Watford and stood up to them.

“They’ve got belief. It’s getting enough points in the next six games and we’ve got to get them as soon as possible.

“It was strange, I thought they shot themselves in the foot at times, they broke the play up for us.”

Wilder said: “Great days for our opponents, and congratulations on a solid performance and result.

“I’ll take responsibility for that performance, we enjoy it when we win and take the plaudits so I’ll take the responsibility.

“Do I see a team that gave up? No, they went to the end. Being 3-1 down and the mood around the place being negative, I own that performance myself.

“Danny Bachmann will learn from that, and he needs to check his emotions.

“We’d all love it to be a positive environment, but I’ve got no problems with the fans’ reaction whatsoever.”

Fans reacted as footage emerges of two yellow cards in a minute with the Watford keeper sent off for a ‘kung fu kick challenge’…

@scrubsville: Watford are on a one way ticket to League One or Two or maybe even worse. Their ownership model coming home to roost. What’s happening now is what people have been saying/hoping for for years.

@GloryHornet: Lets see what the the Bachman haters say about his replacement for the next few games

@Rhyxlitic: 1 minute also sums up the ref and their antics too.

@TomGomersall: Matty Person having it out with the whole Watford team, on one leg, is everything.

@algro10: Brainless squad

@ashleeeydaf: This is so so so so so jokes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@_jakehorwood: Pathetic from Bachmann. I have no doubt he’s not the only player in that dressing room who has it in them to behave like this. Such a soft group that get bullied on the pitch week in, week out and often only show any “fight” when the ball’s out of play. #watfordfc

@jcrfc1871: “Never a second yellow” 🥱

@dombakerdb: This sort of stuff only happens when a club is on its knees. We are broken (and hilarious)

@jakeivwd18: Daniel bachmann turned into Big G in added time the way he flew into there player and was tryna scrap the Huddersfield players 🤣 #watfordfc

@LTFC_Dave: Hook this to my veins

@GAnscomb: Best part of the game that was…

@MBSF155: Worst keeper in league that Bachmann

@NathOdell: 😂 what a club

@edwardz22: @DBachmann1 you had a great start of the season but being sent off in a matter of seconds is just disgraceful . Get out of our club in the summer and learn how to catch a ball instead of punching it.

@PaulWhittenbur1: @DBachmann1 you are an absolute clown. Get out of our club. An apology is no longer enough.

@Inmanry: Lost his head, the tit! 😂😂 #htafc

@scottnixon001: Watching this live, his head had gone before this free kick was even taken.

@kevlennon1: Matty Pearson. Once a 🎩 always a 🎩
