Wycombe’s Adebayo Akinfenwa furiously confronts MK Dons fans over a ‘vile’ chant which was sung towards him, stopping the League One game.
The fixture was temporarily paused after the Chairboys’ striker went face to face with the away supporters when a section of them aimed a chant in his direction.
Akinfenwa was a substitute for the match, but was abused as he was warming up on the sidelines midway through the first-half.
27 – Very proud of @daRealAkinfenwa 💙 MK Dons’ fans have sung a certain song in his direction on several occasions. After the fans ignored Ainsworth’s pleas, Bayo has now approached the fans and has asked them to stop. The game has been paused. #Chairboys #MKDons

He was then seen angrily talking with Dons fans, and it is believed that stewards have ejected at least one supporter.
Dons manager Gareth Ainsworth was seen pleading with supporters to stop singing the ‘sex offenders’ chant.
MK Dons later tweeted: “We ask that the #MKDons fans please refrain from singing that chant. Let’s get behind the boys.”
Before saying in a statement: “MK Dons wishes to apologise to Wycombe Wanderers for the offensive chanting which has tarnished our players’ great performance in securing victory away at Adams Park.
“We strongly condemn this behaviour from a minority of our travelling supporters. This is not who we are as a Football Club and goes completely against our values and culture.
“We will work with our supporters to ensure incidents like this are not repeated.
“At the same time, we would like to thank the majority of fans who got behind their team and played their part in a big away win.”
It was an unsavoury incident to the game, and it remains to be seen if MK Dons receive any further punishment for the behaviour of their fans.
The away side had taken the lead in the 13th minute of the match at Adams Park courtesy of a Scott Twine goal.
It is a match which could have big implications for the race for a play-off spot, and a win for MK Dons would see them draw level with fourth-placed Wycombe on 52 points.
There have also been reports of alleged homophobic abuse at Wycombe Wanderers’ game against MK Dons at Adams Park this afternoon.
Thames Valley Police took to social media to say “homophobic abuse will not be tolerated” and anyone identified “may face arrest and a criminal record”.
The post goes on to say “shame on the small minority of MK Don fans that think this behaviour is acceptable.”
It comes after the same chant was sung by Morecambe fans towards Akinfenwa with a club statement being issued by the Lancashire hosts.
MORECAMBE STATEMENT:
Morecambe FC is aware of an inappropriate chant, which has been levelled at opponents in recent fixtures including the game on Saturday against Wycombe Wanderers.
The Club has been reported to the FA & EFL with regards to this chanting from a section of supporters.
The Club utterly condemns those who are engaging in these inappropriate and hurtful chants, and we would like to apologise to any person(s) affected by such behaviour.
The overwhelming majority of our supporters set a fine example and show respect to their fellow supporters, opposition supporters, players and officials – as evidenced by their disapproval across social media and direct correspondence with the Club.
Any instance of anti-social and abusive behaviour, or chanting, has no place at Morecambe FC and we continue to work hard to eliminate this issue, as it goes against all of our values, and damages the good name of our Club.

After being abused by the travelling ‘fans’, Akinfenwa spends near-on 10 minutes taking selfies with the Wycombe fans after the game.
A man who has never said no to any adoring fan.
A truly remarkable representative of this football club. @daRealAkinfenwa @wwfcofficial

@crinx_UK: why chant that ffs
@stevenbooth881: Do something about it!! BAN all fans identified!
@iflynno: Say it to his face. MK Fakes.
@WillLee94: The absolute state of this. Imagine going to an away game and actually supporting your team instead of abusing opposition players
@BobFree1974: As well as being completely unacceptable, I think one of the most shocking aspects of this story is the realisation that #mkdons actually have fans…
@GavinGregory78: A plastic club with a pathetic fan base behaving like the absolute derogatory morons that they are. Embarrassing football club.
@SamBirdyy: Football is proper going down the drain. Give it 10 years before every ground is sanitised with no noise other than clappers
@DavidPalman: Franchise FC with the racist chanting. Credit to the @wwfcofficial stadium announcer who kept talking over it and to the ref for stopping the game. Hope CCTV finds out who it was.
@Phuntley77: Unbelievable that some individuals are replying to this tweet justifying the songs being sung they really need to have a hard look at themselves
@saswwfc: Disgraceful behaviour and abuse from @MKDonsFC followers towards @wwfcofficial players during 1st half. I say followers as no real fan would act like they are from the gutter. Not fit to wear any teams colours.
@AllEnglandFlags: MK Dons are a mess
@doctordunlop: I feel for the decent @MKDonsFC fans. The minority that keep doing the sex offender chant are a disgrace to your club. You are playing well and winning, perhaps be positive?
