VIDEO: Stunning 85 yard assist helps non league side win title and promotion

We’ve seen the first promotion of the season last night after Dunston UTS came out victorious in a unusual way.

The side – who got all the way to the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round earlier this season, knocking out Chester along the way before losing out to Gateshead, three miles and half away) beat Guisborough Town 3-1 to become Northern League Division One Champions and secure promotion to the Northern Premier League.

One of the games from the game however has got a huge amount of talk on social media. Dunston’s Mark Fitzpatrick headed in after Liam Brooks had a shot from 85 yards hit the bar when spotting opposition keeper Jordan Nixon way off his goal-line.

10 minutes later, Daniel Earl scored Guisborough Town’s equaliser with a good finish.

Dunston needed just one point to secure the title so a draw would have been good enough.

They however continued to push on and mid-way into the second half, got their second of the game when Brooks sent a through ball which met Jack Elliott to then slot home.

That man again Mark Fitzpatrick, the league’s top scorer, found the net in the 75th minute to wrap up the win and Dunston’s promotion.

The whistle blew and the celebrations began with the team being applauded off the pitch and jubilant scenes played out in the dressing room as can be seen below.
