VIDEO: Leeds fans ‘CS sprayed’ by police as trouble flares up at Everton

Some Leeds fans ended up getting ‘CS sprayed’ by police as trouble flares up in the away end at Everton on Saturday afternoon.

A video of what took place at Goodison Park was uploaded to social media site Twitter and has since gone on to get over 40,000 views in less than 24 hours.

The video is captioned: “Police using CS spray on the Leeds fans!! Yet again people don’t know how to deal with Leeds fans!! Most fans were just going back to their seat after HT #lufc #lufcawaydays”

This footage has had hundreds of replies with Merseyside Police being contacted to look into the matter which left some of the travelling fans in pain.

What is CS spray? Exposure to CS gas can cause eye pain, tightness in the chest, coughing, sneezing and leads to tears streaming from the eyes, some of which can be seen towards the end of the clip.

If the gas makes contact with skin, it can lead to a burning and stinging sensation and possible blistering.

Twitter users reacted as a video shows Leeds fans ‘CS sprayed’ by police as trouble flares up at Everton…

The day out for Leeds was made more miserable after their fans watched a 3-0 defeat with Frank Lampard getting his first Premier League win as Everton manager.

A comfortable victory over Leeds moves Everton five points above the bottom three; goals from Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane and Anthony Gordon mean Leeds remain six points above drop.

Everton manager Frank Lampard: “It was a really great performance. It was very important. I loved the performance and the atmosphere, it was very joined up here today.

“The fans were behind us and the players from the start showed an attitude and a work ethic which these fans demand, so it was a really good afternoon.

“We can do a lot here. Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves because our league position is not where we want it to be, but when we do that [today] we can do a lot.”

Asked about Coleman’s performance: “[He’s] a warrior and a symbol of the football club. I heard a lot about Seamus on my way to the job, about what a man he is, what a captain and leader he is and what a great fella he is. He’s shown it from day one.

“I understand now why he’s so respected here and let’s not forget about the talent, what a great performance at right-back today, not just his goal but Seamus was spot on in every way.”

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa: “It was a fair result. They attacked better than us. In the second half we defended a little bit better but we couldn’t manage to attack.

“If you watch the game you will see it was difficult for us to anticipate their forwards.”
