Video footage emerges of Southampton and Newcastle fans fighting with each other mid-game in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.
A number of supporters were involved, with individuals kicking, punching, shoving each other with some falling over seats, and security/stewards knocked down as seen in the clip.
It is said to have taken place in the home section (Kingsland North stand] of St Mary’s Stadium, with some of the Magpies fans spotted in the wrong end.
The clip has gone on to get over 30,000 views since being published days after the game was played out, with Sunderland supporters having a cheeky dig at their rivals’ expense for their part in the incident…

This is what social media said as video footage emerges of Southampton and Newcastle fans fighting with each other mid-game…
@Aydin_Osman96: It still baffles me that in 2023 away fans are still getting in St Mary’s. Bloke who got turfed out of the Kingsland North deserved what ever happens to him. Also just to clarify it takes me 4.5 hours ti get to home games. Both games I’ve seen at St Mary’s this season I’ve sat in Kingsland North (Arsenal & Newcastle). Both times I’ve seen an away fan in the home end giving it large after they’ve scored #Saintsfc
@saintssara: We left early for the last train. Outside Kingsland a steward had been knocked out. Man on floor and police involved wondered what had happened
@BraddersKitch16: Had Arsenal and Newcastle fans near me in block 35, absolute joke and the stewards take forever to get them out
@smallWo15786981: It’s all about the money they don’t care who they sell tickets too.
@RJButterworth11: Right behind me. What a tool
@KingOfTheScum: Was very funny

jsimmo108: The amount of Sunderland lads in the comments. Obsessed much lads. Milan away for us next season. Enjoy Huddersfield away 😘 forever in our shadows 😇

This comes 11 months after more Newcastle fans were seen in the home end of the Premier League fixture, getting attacked by angry Southampton supporters.
There was such a big following of away fans that some of those managed to get tickets in the wrong stand, getting punched as stewards took them out of the ground, though gave it as good as they got before leaving.

Calls were previously made to improve safety at football matches after fighting regularly breaks out at St Mary’s Stadium.
A spokesperson for a police force said last year: “Our Football Unit are working with Southampton Football Club as part of our enquiries into the exact circumstances of the incident.”
Freemantle ward Cllr Dave Shields and former cabinet member for community safety, told the Echo he has been a season ticket holder for years and said he is “really concerned at the rising tide of violence at football.”
He said: “I was at the game last night. I did see from the other side of the stadium there was a bit of an incident there.
“It’s not anywhere near as bad as it was in the 80s or 70s, it was a lot worse in those days. It has been controlled or managed better but it does seem like the past couple of years it has been slipping back.
“I think we do need to bring the council, the police, the football authorities and the football club to make sure we’re checking where we are with stadium safety.
“I think we also need to involve the broadcasters because I think some of the scheduling of games doesn’t help the situation.”
Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire, Donna Jones says “violence and unacceptable behaviour both inside the stadium and outside will not be tolerated”.
“In terms of the recent arrest figures published at Premier League clubs, there are a couple of key points to note. Firstly, not all arrests are related to violent incidents, some are pitch invasions and not violent activities.
“Secondly, both Southampton FC and Hampshire Police are one of the better partnerships at reporting incidents.”
The PCC adds police and the football club worked on several joint initiatives to improve safety at home games. Yeah, sounds like that’s stopped it, following the scenes of fighting saw on Tuesday night.
