Video emerges of Dover steward and Gillingham fan clashing at friendly

A video emerges of a Dover Athletic steward and a Gillingham fan clashing at a pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon.

The 21 second clip surfaced on social media, showing a crowd management staff member pushing a fan in the face while pushing and losing his cool.

He then takes himself away from the situation with other fans nearby telling him to keep moving towards the other end of the stand.

Young kids take to goad him, while teenagers sing chants about Gillingham. It’s not however known what provoked this flare up. Take a look a the video below…

Four different scorers helped the League Two side began their pre-season campaign in style with a 4-0 victory at Dover.

Tom Nichols, Oli Hawkins, Conor Masterson and Lewis Walker all got on the scoresheet with Gills dominating.

Manager Neil Harris named two different starting 11s for either half at Crabble Ground with both Jonny Williams and Max Clark also making an appearances in the opening 45 minutes and Josh Chambers, Lewis Walker and Joe Gbode coming on in the second half.

Gillingham started well and went ahead with their first effort on target which saw Max Clark play a superb weighted ball down the left side, Tom Nichols went on the chase, stayed onside, made his way into the penalty area and lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper and the ball found the opposite corner.

Jake Turner was on hand to prevent an equaliser shortly afterwards, making a low save to his left side with Alex Giles then heading a corner, sent in by Jonny Williams, wide.

Max Ehmer had a left footed effort blocked before a low effort from Jonny Williams, following a solo run from Nichols, was comfortably gathered. Turner came into action again on 30 minutes, palming a Dover free-kick wide before Nichols headed away the resulting corner.

5 minutes later, Cheye Alexander’s right footed free-kick from 25 yards flew just over the bar, then he played a big part in the Gills making it 2-0 shortly after when sending Nichols in space on the right side and the forward looked up, sent the ball to Hawkin and found the back of the net from six yards with a header.

Gills’ second half squad came on and were just as good with the EFL side finding a third on 58 minutes. Will Wright’s low corner from the right scored by Conor Masterson towards the near post.

Six minutes later and it was 4-0 Gillingham, Tim Dieng producing a cross from the left hand side, but the Dover keeper couldn’t decide whether to come out or not, Walker was there, putting a header in the back of the net.

Gills (first-half): Turner, Alexander, Ehmer, Giles, Clark, Lapslie, S Williams, Clarke, J Williams, Nichols, Hawkins.

Gills (second-half): Morris, Orji, Wright, Masterson, McKenzie, Dieng, Coleman, Jefferies, Chambers (Macarthur 76), Gbode, Walker.

@george__cory: Got to laugh haven’t you

@B_Bowman94: What a club we are 😂

@JackA171293: Probably deserved it

@awlshw: The rest of the crowd didn’t seem bothered by what the security bloke did so it was probably justified

@JackA171293: He’s from Gillingham, steward probably just wanted to get away from his breath

@jamie_dafc: ‘Come here you cunt’ whilst stood still recording him. 😭 This is what peer pressure does to a bunch of 14 year olds

@PhilRiverman10: They were banging on the stands, he was very aggressive sweating at them to stop. They got really mouthy, he offered them round the back of the stand for a fight, hardly good security guard behaviour. They kept giving him grief then that happened

@tom1875_: kid filming this is a gimp tbh

@Oween99: Imagine beefing as a gillingham fan 😭😭

@B_Bowman94: No smoke without fire
