Updates given on emergency incidents at Oxford v Luton and Bolton v Charlton

Updates have been given on the emergency incidents at both Oxford v Luton and Bolton v Charlton on Tuesday night.

Towards the end of the match at the Kassam Stadium, there was a medical emergency in part of the East Stand, which was made clear, and covers put up to screen the supporter receiving treatment from medics.

The fan was then helped up with the assistance of medical professionals, stewards and nearby supporters, with a positive update since made.

Oxford United (@OUFCOfficial) tweeted after the game: “Thank you to the medical team and all supporters in the East Stand tonight who rushed to help with an emergency incident.

“We are pleased to report the person has now left the stadium in a stable condition and is well 💛”

Leigh Brandram replied in the comment section on Facebook: “Many thanks to the Medical team at OUFC who assisted my wife last night after she had an epileptic fit fast response and great after care 💙💛💛💙”

An update has also emerged following the medical emergency at Bolton v Charlton, with the referee paused it around four minutes into the match.

The match was able to resume six minutes later with Bolton since confirming that the fan had been taken to Bolton Hospital for further treatment.

Bolton said on Twitter: “There has been a stoppage in play due to a medical emergency in the crowd. We will update as and when we know more. The game has now resumed. Our thoughts are with the supporter who has fell ill and we will update when we hear more on the situation”

They added: “Following a medical incident in the crowd during the opening minutes of tonight’s game, Wanderers can confirm that a supporter has been taken to Bolton Hospital for further treatment. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the supporter.”

Lindsey Reynolds issued a response, saying: “Thank you everyone for your well wishes my Dad is currently in MRI having treatment for a cardiac arrest and a heart attack. Thank you to everyone who helped my Dad and looked after my son we are so very grateful.”

Greg Leigh sealed victory for Gary Rowett’s U’s side in a five-goal thriller over struggling Hatters. Oxford found themselves twice behind in the first half, before producing a comeback, turning the scoreline around to win 3-2.

Meanwhile at Bolton, Karoy Anderson scored a late winner to complete Charlton’s 2-1 comeback, with the game proving to be Ian Evatt’s last in charge for the Trotters.

The medical incidents comes days after tributes were paid as Portsmouth sadly confirmed that a supporter has died after medical emergency at Saturday’s game against Middlesbrough.

The Championship fixture at Fratton Park had to be stopped just seconds after kick-off with the referee alerted of medics rushing to the North Stand.

Players left the pitch and the game was delayed for around 35 minutes, as first responders carried out CPR on the supporter, who. was then taken to a waiting ambulance and airlifted from the stadium, as emergency services crew attempt to save them.

Next of kin were notified that the supporter sadly passed away, with Portsmouth FC issuing a statement…

@nickmanor: Very pleased to hear this news. Best wishes to the supporter for a quick recovery. And thanks to all those who assisted 💛

@yellow_division: In stoppage time of tonight’s game, an oxford fan was taken ill. During this very difficult moment, our fanbase acted quickly to draw attention to the situation and was rewarded with little to no help from stewards and medical officers, we are extremely disappointed by the clubs handing of the situation. Yellow Division would like to offer our deepest thoughts to the fan and we hope they are able to make a full recovery 💛

@denooneo23: This happened 2 rows behind me. To be fair stewards and medical were there pretty quickly. In this very unusual situation where the crowd are standing etc anyway, I think it’s in bad taste to put out a tweet like this.

@yellow_division: Incorrect, the response time to the incident was far too slow and handled poorly we have had an influx in messages voicing this… we have only put out said tweet to demand procedures to be faster in the future , and not to offend or leave a bad light on the situation

@denooneo23: Fair enough, thanks for your response. I just felt that being so close and only realising myself what had happened , it seemed stewards etc were there within a minute or two.

@Adam79146291922: Response looked quick and efficient from the north stand. Less bad mouthing and more sympathy for the supporter wouldnt go a miss.

@BattenVickers05: thoughts and speedy recovery to fan in our east stand and the paramedic who sits on the front row with us for doing his job even when not on duty forever yellow 💛

@Oxrising: Disagree. I was in block 21 and police were 1st on scene v.quickly. The control box had eyes on straight away and were coordinating the response on radios. The crowd don’t know who should be responding to what, just because you’re in hi-vis does not mean you should be 1st there.
