Ian Evatt apologises after Cambridge United post video of him shouting ‘f*** off’ in an angry outburst at half time of Saturday game.
The Bolton boss issued an apology after an incident that soon began being talked about by fans on social media, before Cambridge United caught the moment on camera and published a clip of it, as part of their matchday highlights, onto their YouTube channel, before then re-uploading it with Evatt’s swearing cut out.
@StapleBwfc tweeted after the 2-2 draw: “I sit in West Lower with my 10yo lad, near the tunnel. I was one of those Evatt shouted fuck off too. Yes, I was booing. We were losing at home HT to 23rd in League One.
“Sums him up. Arrogant, superior complex. Not what this club is and neither is the town of Bolton #evattout #bwfc”
Evatt has now responded, expressing regret for his actions at a time when Bolton going into the break at 2-1 down, acknowledging the pressure he has been under and the effect the criticism has had not only on him but also on some of his players.

Ian Evatt said to the Bolton News: “First of all, I do apologise if any offence was taken.
“I was walking back down the tunnel, I didn’t stop to look at any one person or target anybody in particular, I was just so annoyed with what had happened in the first half, the football, and it all came out.
“It was pure frustration at what I’d seen on the pitch. I didn’t mean it to come across as aggressive towards anybody, especially the fans. It was me letting my emotions out and it wasn’t personal at all.”
Evatt said to the club’s media after Saturday’s game: “We have to look at getting back to keeping clean sheets and stop conceding such sloppy goals.
“At the moment we’re just far too easy to score against. Against teams that just want to come and spoil, delay, disrupt, to concede so early you give yourselves a mountain to climb.
“And against any team that comes with 11 behind the ball you can’t concede the first goal. Then it’s really hard to break them down. Having said that, we scored a really good goal to get ourselves back in the game and then 51 seconds later we give ourselves all that work to do in the second half.
“It was complete domination in the second half but we weren’t clinical enough with our chances when they came. But they kept going. We should have won the game but we managed to get something out of it which is a positive.
“We didn’t lose the game and hopefully come the end of the season that’s an important point.”
“We just have to regroup and go again.
“Hopefully we can get some bodies in to help us. Hopefully, we will see what we can do. It was important not to lose that game and we get ready again for Tuesday.”
Bolton assistant Stephen Crainey said in his press conference ahead of Tuesday’s game against Charlton: “We demand that we win games of football here, as staff and as players”.
“The players don’t go into games not to win them, so hopefully against Charlton we can get both the result and the performance.
“I do think we can be a wee bit more clinical at the top end of the pitch, especially when you get the amount of possession we did on Saturday, dominating the ball, and we should have had more end product, but we didn’t. Hopefully that changes.
“Defensively we can’t give away cheap goals. We did that on Saturday but we have spoken about it, so hopefully they take it on board.”

Fans reacted as Ian Evatt apologises after Cambridge post a video of him shouting ‘f*** off’ in an angry outburst…
@ColBwfc: Clear as day. That is not good. #BWFC
@Ben_Whittle1997:
Tells fans and young kids to fuck off ✅
Head butts opposition players ✅
Gets his Corey out on video ✅
When will this man get sacked haha he thinks he’s untouchable and the board are enabling him week in week out #BWFC
@aaron_bwfc: I think his time is up but IMO this has been blown way out of proportion- he’s walking with his head down, a man who is fed up with all the abuse. If he was looking up and directing it to someone then fair enough but don’t think this is the case #bwfc
@murphywigan: The show might be over. They’ve got a home game tomorrow. He’s going to need his own security team.
@the_sensefield: Good on him. Wetwipes complaining because they’ve given him a dogs abuse for an hour and he’s given something back. It’s a blokes game, stop being a load of fucking tarts. #bwfc
@_tomd94: Excellent work @CambridgeUtdFC
@nathjnzy: In any sense, if you worked at a supermarket and told a customer to fuck off you’d get the boot and the same should happen here… #bwfc
@bwfc714: Evatt is under pressure and is clearly struggling to cope. Here he is at work so should conduct himself in a professional manner as a representative of #bwfc It doesn’t look great but on its own it shouldn’t cost him his job. Problem is, its now one of multiple incidents 🤯
@GregFarrimond: 😂😂😂😂 I’ve seen Bolton fans claim they’re a social experiment. The guy is woeful, swears at their fans, always blames his players and has history of being a nasty bully. Still has full job security. Long may it last. And I’ve just realised we play them on April Fool’s day.
@1877BC: We’ve reached peak banter club status.
@VoielsDan: Just for you happy clappers who denied it 😂😂😂. Hope Rev. Evatt goes to confession this week.
@CMerrills22: He should be sacked for this, but he wont. We’ll just get a statement from Sharon saying there will be an internal investigation, take the matter seriously blah blah blah then hear nothing from it #bwfc
@CoreyBissell_16: Surely. Just surely it has to happen now… #wafc
@Wil1J: Like to see him dig his way out of this one. Not my manager. #bwfc
@BenLawes: “I was out of order shouldn’t have sworn, It wasn’t aimed at the fans, they have been magnificent. I was massively frustrated with the performance, sorry to anyone I offended” #bwfc 😂😂😂😂
@BurndenWay: Fuck off or fuck the lot of you? #BWFC
@RyanBWFC846: No manager should be able to survive that… He’s an absolute disgrace and if Sharon doesnt do her job of making the best decisions for the football club, she needs to go too #bwfc
@Bwfc12341: Unacceptable… Not representative of my football club. Evatt out.
