Update made on non league footballer who collapsed on the pitch mid-game

An update has been made on the non league footballer who collapsed on the pitch mid-game as Hurlford played Maybole Juniors in July.

Will Graham, from Kilmarnock, is “defying the odds” as he begins recovery after paramedics were called to the game, only to discover he had a bleed on the brain.

The Ayrshire player was taken to Crosshouse Hospital before being taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for an operation.

The 23-year-old had the operation on the 22nd of July and was discharged with a ruptured brain aneurysm. Now he’s undergoing rehabilitation to get him fit and back onto the football pitch.

He was found to have a ruptured brain aneurysm and was rushed to surgery

Hurlford United have now set up a GoFundMe page to help him as he goes through the rehab process which includes private Neuro Physiotherapy and Neuro Psychology.

The club are also sharing updates on his progress on their Twitter including sharing Will’s own videos of his journey.

In one tweet, he said: “Where do I even start, just want to thank everyone for the messages.

“I can’t thank everyone enough or put into words how grateful I am to still be alive.

“Can’t thank the surgeon enough for saving my life at QE hospital giving me a second chance at life.”

The footballer thanked the surgeon "for saving my life"

The club recently shared a video of their player walking to a jog in the latest effort to recover.

The GoFundMe page said: “We are looking to support Hurlford United player Will Graham, 23, in his recovery from recent brain surgery.

“The local football community was shocked when Will collapsed during a game v Maybole Juniors Wednesday 20th July 2022, and was shortly diagnosed with a ruptured brain aneurysm.

“The volume of messages of support for Will has been overwhelming.

“Following surgery on Friday 22nd July 2022, Will now faces his biggest challenge to recover physically and mentally.

“Anyone that knows Will will not be surprised that he is defying the odds already through his determination and a positive mindset.

“This fund is intended primarily to support Will with the rehabilitation process, which will include private Neuro Physiotherapy and Neuro Psychology.

“The family is incredibly grateful to the Neurological department at the Queen Elizabeth hospital and will donate to Horatio’s Garden, a tranquil garden space to assist patients with rehabilitation away from the ward. #wearewithwill”
