Dorking sign Dortmund, Rangers, Leicester, Southampton target from Crystal Palace

Dorking Wanderers sign Daniel Quick, a Borussia Dortmund, Rangers, Leicester, Southampton target from Premier League outfit Crystal Palace.

The 19 year old joins from Crystal Palace under 23s and was a key player in the under 28s side that competed for the Premier League South title in the 2020/21 season. A confident ball-playing central defender with great aerial ability, he weighed in with three goals and an assist in addition to being a crucial figure at the back for the young Eagles side, who missed out on the league championship in the end on goal difference.

Progress continued for the young Englishman last season, becoming part of the under 23s side and going on to make a number of appearances including against Portsmouth in the Papa John’s Trophy.

Dan’s exploits within the Palace academy have not gone unnoticed by the first team and manager Patrick Viera, who handed him a first team debut last pre-season against Walsall and in the past summer, Dan was included in the squad’s pre-season tour of Australia and Singapore.

Dan will be with the Dorking squad for this weekend’s trip to Solihull Moors.

Wanderers boss Marc White is not normally a fan of loan deals but made an exception for Quick.

โ€œI think our squad is small and without having a volume of games already, weโ€™ve already picked up a lot of niggles,” he said.

โ€œEd Harris, Nicky Wheeler, Jimmy Muitt, Barry Fuller, James McShane and Niall McManus. Thatโ€™s a lot already without the volume of games that is set to come.

โ€œI just felt like we needed more depth in the squad.

โ€œDan is a friend of a friend. Or the son of a friend of a friend. And thatโ€™s how it came about.

โ€œLoans are not a route we normally go down but one we are excited to look at.โ€

CRYSTAL PALACE STATEMENT:

Crystal Palace Academy defender Daniel Quick has joined Dorking Wanderers on loan.

The 19-year-old will spend the rest of the 2022/23 campaign at Meadowbank, as Dorking look to build on last seasonโ€™s promotion to the National League.

Quick is a versatile defender that is capable of playing anywhere across the defence. He made 21 appearances, predominantly as a centre-back, for Paddy McCarthyโ€™s Under-18s side which narrowly missed out on the Under 18 Premier League South title in 2020/21.

He has continued to feature in the defence for the Under-23s last season, making 13 appearances, including a start against Portsmouth in the EFL Trophy. His performances earned him an appearance off the bench against Manchester United in the 22/23 pre-season tour of Australia and Singapore.

Commenting on his loan move, Quick said: โ€œThis will be a great opportunity for me. Iโ€™m ready to test myself against experienced professionals and I think Iโ€™ll learn a lot at Dorking.

โ€œIโ€™m ready to work, earn my place in the squad and help Dorking push on in their first season in the National League.โ€
