Two late goals including an absolute screamer sees Hereford snatch three points at Chester

Two late goals including an absolute screamer sees Hereford snatch all three points at Chester in the National League North on Tuesday.

Aurio Teixeira unleashed a beauty from a fair distance out to clinch a big win for the Bulls at the Deva Stadium in midweek.

The result takes Hereford up to 15th in the table, a place above opponents for Chester, and have 10 points from 8 games played. Chester meanwhile are 16th with 8 points from the same amount of games played.

The first goal of the game came in the 34th minute with a sublime pass by Burke finding Coates who took it in his stride and was tripped by a sliding Livingstone. Declan Weeks stepped up and netted the spot kick.

Just as it looked as though the hosts were going to get the win, Hereford made sure that wasn’t going to be happened, but certainly left it late.

On the 84th minute, a ball to the back stick found Mendes in achars of space and he slotted it past Stanway from a tight angle.

Then two minutes later, Teixeira picked the ball up in the middle of the park and smashed it from 30 yards to find the top corner.

Chester: Stanway, Coates, Burke, Williams, Heywood, Roberts, Glendon (Murray 50), Weeks, Whitehouse, Maguire (Caton 61), Hall.

Subs Not Used: Evans, Sparrow, Edwards.

Hereford: Pond, Skinner, Livingstone (Arthur 74), Teixeira, Downing, Babos, Ryley (Stanley 60), Singh (Mendes 74), Southern, Rooney, Cameron

Subs Not Used: Cranston, Hewlett

Scorers: Weeks (pen) 35; Mendes 84, Teixeria 88

Teixeria said post-match: They’ve been trying to discuss, the lads, about that one but now honestly that’s probably the best I’ve ever scored I’m not really one to score goals but I’ll take that and obviously to win it as well was much more important.

“I thought listen the space was there was a great little pass from Downs as well space was there for me to take it on us I thought you know why not we ain’t really but I don’t even have not many options there so I just thought might as well hit it and see what happens and it goes top bins.”

“To be honest I thought the performance was good obviously now it was a bit deflating that when you’re down but I just think the boys said right just keep as one as long as possible and to be fair we had a lot of momentum creating a lot of chances…”
