Troy Deeney gets ‘savaged’ by Newcastle fan after ‘row’ over what he said about the city

Troy Deeney gets ‘absolutely savaged’ by a Newcastle fan after a ‘row’ over what he said about the city not being ‘desirable’.

The ex footballer turned manager and pundit, recently sparked quite the talk on social media with remarks about Newcastle upon Tyne, a clip of him surfacing and getting over a million views in less than 24 hours on Twitter alone.

His comments suggested that Newcastle is “not a desirable place to go and live” due to its distance from London.

This statement was made on CBS Sports and led to a backlash from Newcastle fans, escalating when Deeney was confronted by a passionate Newcastle fan, highlighting the sensitivity of regional pride and identity in football culture.

Samantha Rees (@samanthatoonfan) tweeted: “Me mate had a row with Troy Deeney outside Emirates last night. Only got the last part of the spat with me mate but they decided against interviewing us 😂 I doubt he will disrespect Newcastle again #nufc”

Kath Chandler (@chandler9_kath) wrote: “Yes, this was me just telling Troy Deeney not to try to further his career by taking cheap shots at NUFC and the beautiful city of Newcastle. By the way, had Sam filmed it right through she would have caught him admitting he doesn’t know Newcastle at all!”

Deeney was on CBS Sports Golazo in December, where he was telling a television audience in the US that Newcastle was ‘not a desirable place to go and live because you’re so far away from London’.

Troy said it was ‘difficult to get people there’, even though Newcastle’s signing such as Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Sven Botman have spoken of how fond they are of the area.

Shreeves said: “Because after the infamous cahoneys remark, I thought Troy would not be a popular figure here, but lots of photographs, lots of pictures.

“We went outside, and then he was absolutely savaged by a Newcastle United fan. This lady took great exception to something he’s telling CBS about Newcastle not being a nice place to live.

Deeney: “Weren’t lying.It’s the truth ain’t it?!”

CBS studio: “Wow. It is not bad. Newcastle’s a nice place to live.”

Nigel Reo-Coker said he was ‘crazy to say that when he’s from Birmingham’.

Deeney then hit back by claiming that it is actually a ‘lovely place’.

Nigel adds: I’d like to say, Troy, first of all, it’s nice for you to turn up for work today. We appreciate you being a part of the day…

Troy: Says the man that’s been on holiday for 2 weeks. No problem. I appreciate it. More importantly, I am doing this for free yet again. So if we could change that, you know, just work it.

Shreeves: Hang on. Hang on. I’ve got the world’s smallest violin in here.

Troy: Yeah. No. We’re having a great time. Hey. It’s just it’s just a massive atmosphere as well, by the way.

Pundit: Troy, Geoff was here last week, and he took all the all the money, man. We got nothing left. You know? He brought big big Jeff Shreeves in, so we got nothing.

Troy: That’s why you haven’t got a tie, bro. It’s mental.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe previously said that he had ‘never experienced someone not wanting to come here because of the area’.

“It’s trying to sell the complete package to players because the football, for me, has to be the most important thing,” he added. “If a player is thinking about other things, maybe, they’re not the right fit for us.”

Here’s how Twitter users reacted as Troy Deeney gets ‘savaged’ by Newcastle fans after a ‘row’ over what he said about the city…

@ApPLeNuFc: I’ve seen the clip when he tries to play it off on tv where he knows he’s not gonna get any comebacks. It should be crouch up every single time he comes up here or covers our games

@justinaminute: If the vibrant, friendly party city that is Newcastle isn’t a nice place to live – having lived there for five years, it definitely is – where does that leave Watford?

@johnpsimon: Says a man born in *checks notes* Birmingham 🤣

@koomzynufc: Well he never had to find out as he was never good enough at any point in his career to play for Nufc

@Garth_82: Always been a certified 🛎️🔚

@dennett28786: Shit footballer, shit pundit and a shit human who cares what he says!!!

@itsrolaaq: says the guy that’s never lived in Newcastle- just utter dross… I’ve lived in several cities between the US, Canada and UK and Newcastle is by far the best. You have the city and easy, close access to the coast and countryside.

@julie_shanks: Newcastle is a fantastic city with lovely restaurants, an historic theatre & football stadium and team. It is close to beautiful beaches and outstanding countryside. It is a great place to live. He doesn’t know what he is talking about!

@Christi39066544:And them lot all laughing, how disgusting.

@OliverB96817514: ah yes and obviously London is completely safe cheers Troy 😁

@FTM1042: Some of the things he comes out with is just pathetic!!

@richjohnson8_8: State of the man 😂

@Jeremy14ynwa: Troy D is an absolute mug. How his face ended up in commentary is insane. I turn off when he is on screen.

@The_Toon_Talk: He never has a good word to say about Newcastle – in recent weeks he’s said that Hall and Livramento can’t defend and that Schar isn’t known for being able to play football…… blokes an idiot

@SNP_BA27: He’s a knob, he considers himself controversial and outspoken, but he just makes fool of himself time and time again during to sheer ignorance . Pleased you told him. Good on you 👏👏👏

@JeffGil51424626: Not worth the calories with idiots like him!

@ataylor1892: He’s so ignorant, hope he nevers comes to SJP!!!

@BrentfordHive: Still don’t know how he’s managed to land this job
