Trouble breaks out with a game between AFC Fylde and Chester stopped and players for both sides taken off on Saturday afternoon.
The away end was full of Chester fans and a number of stewards at AFC Fylde, however concerning scenes played out as can be seen below.
Video footage has surfaced on social media showing just what happened, as the two sides played out a 1-1 National League North draw.
It was in the 59th minute that the game was halted. The players went back down the tunnel. The announcement given is that the game has been stopped due to a medical emergency.
Nearly 20 minutes or so later, players returned to the field of play, and got back underway.
Twitter user Richard242 (@Richard242) wrote: “Ref taking the players off at Fylde v Chester. Away fans getting a little boisterous
“Announcement of a ‘medical emergency’ in the away end. Appears a steward has been injured.
“Gonna be a late one this, start of second half was already delayed as ref was concerned about fans encroaching at the away end. Still not back out.
“Announcement that discussions currently ongoing with police about whether match can continue.
“Players back out warming up.”
The game itself saw Chester extend their unbeaten streak to 16 matches, and were well worth the draw at Mill Farm against the league leaders.
Connor Barrett’s incredible effort gave the Coasters the lead. But Kurt Willoughby’s 21st season-best finish ensured that it was all over.
Barrett was the attempted for first goal of the match, taking a poor shot wide after a positive start by the hosts.
Chester, however, grew into the second half and was able to test Chris Neal multiple times. Weeks had already gone wide after 17 minutes. Willoughby was denied the Coasters’ goalkeeper by Jamie Morgan just moments later.
Debutant Hughes was a problem with his dangerous free kicks delivery. First Roberts’ stabbed attempt was blocked by a Fylde defender before Matty Williams shot just wide.
Two minutes before the break, however, the hosts scored the opener. Barrett cut inside with his left foot and curled in brilliantly from the underside the crossbar.
Chester were denied a spot kick on 58 minutes. Hughes seemed to have been tripped by an inexplicable challenge in the area. This was followed by a 15-minute delay due to a medical emergency at the away end.
The goal was scored by the Seals’ top scorer when the sides returned. Willoughby ignored Whitmore and calmly brought Neal home.
The Blues felt pressure and momentum, as they had the chance to go in front. Murray’s cross was too deep for a Chris Neal to tip over. Weeks’ cross fell to Matty Williams, who saw his attempt slip inches wide.
Harry Tyrer, at the other end, made a great diving stop to block Haughton’s free kick of 25 yards. Neal was almost caught out by Willoughby, but Whitmore was there to stop him.
Loanee Hughes almost had the last word as his swirling effort towards goal was heading towards goal. But Neal won and it was over.

This is what social media users said as trouble breaks out with the game between AFC Fylde and Chester stopped and players taken off…
@___Lonee: Nasty fall for the lad hope he’s alright
@___Lonee: Also stewards are cunts and they contributed to this
@___Lonee: Think the lad was stuck between stewards and our fans when a pen wasn’t given. Don’t take my word for gospel though didn’t get a clear view. Stewarding been atrocious here though. Glorified bouncers picking fights with people and then kicking them out
@Liam135797531 (Replying to @ChesterFC): Your fans have behaved absolutely atrociously at Fylde today, you should be utterly ashamed of yourselves
@Matt_At9_: What happened
@Liam135797531: Assaulting stewards
@Matt_At9_: Stewards or bouncers getting trigger happy?
@paulthereferee: Imagine needing 14 police vans at @AFCFylde because imbeciles from @ChesterFC can’t behave themselves. I wasn’t at the game myself but drove through supporters leaving the game at 5.30pm, more than 45 minutes after the game finished and what fucking morons you were.
@Squireofthegate: Whatever else we do at Mill Farm @AFCFylde need to get a waist height barrier put in situ all along the away end, virtually every club has them in this league for a good reason(have a look at Leamington/Brackley/Chorley or Kellamargh Park for examples),we need them at Mill farm.
Plenty of drama at @afcfylde – players taken players off the pitch cos #Chester fans don’t know how to behave pic.twitter.com/nr9c73kVYs
