Tottenham fans belt out chant mocking Brentford’s Ivan Toney over his gambling

Tottenham fans decided to belt out a chant in which they were heard mocking Brentford’s Ivan Toney over his recent gambling ban.

It was a night full of cheekiness whether it was on the pitch or coming from in the stands as Spurs played out a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night.

We had Neal Maupay and James Maddison have it out on Instagram as a taunting goal celebration from the Brentford player backfires. See more on that HERE.

But we also saw much of the home crowd sing “Ivan Toney, you should’ve cashed out!”, with a clip uploaded onto Twitter showing that very moment.

It comes just weeks after the same chant was sung by Nottingham Forest fans when Toney marked his comeback arrived after an eight-month ban from gambling, which was imposed on him in May of the previous year.

As a result of admitting to 232 violations of the FA’s betting regulations, Toney was fined £50,000 and prohibited from participating in football until the 16th of January, 2024.

The 27-year-old, who had been diagnosed with a gambling addiction, finally made his highly anticipated return when he was included in the starting lineup by Thomas Frank for Brentford’s home Premier League match against Forest.

While Brentford supporters warmly welcomed their star player’s return, the visiting fans chose to mock his suspension instead.

During the early stages of the game, Forest fans could be heard chanting, “Ivan Toney, he should have cashed out”.

However, Toney swiftly silenced the away section by scoring a free-kick just 19 minutes into his comeback.

Forest had initially taken the lead with a 20-yard volley from Danilo just three minutes into the match, momentarily dampening the spirits of the loyal Bees supporters who were welcoming Toney back for the first time.

Ivan Toney stated last month that his last bet was “years ago”, but doesn’t currently plan on becoming a spokesperson on gambling addiction.

Asked when he placed his last bet, Toney told the Daily Mail: “Years ago. Yeah, so it’s all sorted now.

“You just look back and look at the money you’ve lost and what that could have gone towards. These kinds of things. But the more you do that, the more you drive yourself crazy.

“I literally couldn’t tell you (how much I’ve bet). The more I think about it, the more I dwell on the past. It will haunt you even more and pain you.

“I didn’t bet on anything else apart from football. Not really. Maybe a horse at the Cheltenham Festival but that was it. The past is the past, so why let it hurt you?”

His aim is top force his way back into England’s squad for the Euros.

@avilash1985: A loud & clear message to Toney 🤪 Such a cheater. Shame… From his last goal onwards of shifting the ball (even after positioning of players by keeper for a free kick, he shifted the ball right from marked position) I am fully against of this guy. #THFC #COYS #Spurs
