Torquay fans in angry confrontation with their own players again after defeat to Truro

Torquay United fans were once again in an angry confrontation with their own players after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Truro City.

Footage has surfaced of the moment, with lots of hand gestures, pointing, shouting aimed towards one Gulls player in particular come the final whistle.

More security/stewards are called in to deal with the situation, in an attempt to prevent it from worsening, as shouts of “f*** off you p***k” can be heard.

Truro got the only goal of the game on 18 minutes, and after a dominant start, it was fully deserved. A corner from the left found Ben Adelsbury unmarked at the back post who powered a header home.

Torquay’s first meaningful chance didn’t come into just gone the 30 minute mark, and it should be the equaliser. A curling shot struck the far post before Hamon claimed the ball.

Torquay continued with the chances for the rest of the first half, and kept on knocking at the door throughout the second half, but just couldn’t find that leveller.

Over 3,700 fans watched Truro managed to hold off Torquay with great defending and safe hands from the keeper to claim all the points.

The result means that Torquay have lost twice games this festive period (2-0 at Chelmsford and 1-0 at home to Truro) since the four successive league wins.

Torquay sit 5th in the National League South table with 40 points from 24 games, Truro are 16th with 31 points from 22 games played.

Torquay boss Gary Johnson said after the game, as per Torbay Weekly: “We lost it in the first 20 minutes – we didn’t really get going at all.

“We had the last 10-15 minutes of the first half, and we probably had the whole of the second half.

“We had a lot of chances, their goalkeeper made three or four point-blank saves, and we hit the woodwork twice.

“But for all the crosses we got in, we didn’t get on the end of enough of them. For the amount of ball we had outside the box, we didn’t do enough with it.

“But when you lose 1-0 to your local rivals, supporters don’t want to hear bad luck stories or excuses.”

On subbing Ipswich loanee Osman Foyo off before the break, having been booked, Johnson added: “The card was part of it, but we felt he wasn’t quite getting in the game.

“I thought he looked frustrated, and we wanted to save him and us from any sending-off – he was frustrated enough to get a red card.”

This is what Twitter users are saying with Torquay fans in an angry confrontation with their own players again after defeat to Truro…

@RichHeesem: Go to the football they said, get behind the club in the good times and the bad times they said. No more queues they said, Gary is the man for the job they said. It will be fun they said. #OneClubUnited They did not say we’d lose to 19th placed Truro though did they Lols #tufc

@HarrisonThorne5: Big crowd and we do that. Can’t fault the effort but the quality and tactics are just non existent.

@thomaspculley: Defenders can’t defend, Attackers can’t attack and the midfield can’t pass the ball!! Sort it out! Embarrassing!

@zakw91: Awful mismanagement again conceding and getting out worked and bullied early, they didn’t get in our half once in the second half shambolic

@Jonny___Jones: Credit to them, Truro deserved the win. Injuries are crippling us, but that was an embarrassing performance by a ‘professional’ team.

@TUFCsufferer: That was terrible, change something now!

@martin_ash32: Johnson always said he wants the team to average 2 points a game. We are now halfway through the season and we are 8 points off 2 a game. Johnson has failed his own criteria and needs to go tonight!!

@GarryB2707: What a shite Christmas

@Torquayhopper12: How can anyone with a brain genuinely think that performance is acceptable? Genuinely don’t think there’s more than about 2 or 3 players worth keeping out of that lot

@noahw_17TUFC: Most spineless and pathetic performance I’ve ever seen from a Torquay team

@PatBuckingham: 10 league defeats. Ten. To semi pro outfits. Humiliating.

@jamesallan163: The One Club, United lost today at home on Boxing Day to a part-time team that was playing 7th Tier football last year and its home games 50-odd miles from the city of its name. A city that is smaller than Newton Abbot.

@jordan__ian: Below par again, not good enough!! Halstead, Archer, De Silva, Moxey a shining light but not enough the team was stationary, lack of creativity, enthusiasm, urgency and movement. We know we can play and win but the last two games we’ve been stagnant!! COME ON YOU YELLOWS!! 💛⚽️

@SWNe__: I cannot put into words how much pathetic and disgraceful that performance was today. Many individuals should be ashamed to be representing this football club in such a cowardly manner.

@democracyfirst6: Absolute wank, might as well play the Youth Team going forward and get the bloke behind the bar to pick the team, we could not be any worse than this absolute shower of shite and that includes the players. We are not a ‘professional’ football club anymore on any level

@Tommyktufc: Pathetic Johnson. Can’t wait for your excuse this week. Any club run properly would have sacked you months ago @TUFC1899 #tufc
