Right, time to take a look at who are the top six favourites to become the next permanent manager of Sheffield Wednesday.
It comes after Garry Monk was sacked late on Monday night with the club in the relegation zone following a dismal start to the 2020/21 campaign.
The Owls sit 23rd in the table, with six points, but their goalless draw against Millwall on Saturday ended up being his last game with the club.
The move despite the second-bottom Championship club having seen their 12-point deduction for breaching spending rules halved last week.
So who are the top six favourites to become next Sheffield Wednesday manager? Take a look below…
6) Danny Cowley
Cowley was most recently was sacked by Huddersfield Town, despite beating second-place West Brom in his last game in charge, which all-but-confirmed the club’s survival.
It’s understood that owner Phil Hodgkinson wanted total control over transfers — but his manager was not willing to work that way.
Danny first grabbed the attention of the country when he and his brother took Lincoln City all the way to the FA Cup Quarter Finals in 2017, causing shocks against Ipswich, Brighton and Burnley along the way.
The Imps finished the 2016/17 season crowned champions of the National League and then in the 2017/18 season finished 7th, claiming a playoff place in their first season back in the Football League and also won the EFL Trophy at Wembley.
In the 2018/19 season, Danny and Nicky Cowley’s side finished top of the League Two table and won promotion to League One.
Danny Cowley left League One high flyers Lincoln to join the Championship strugglers in September, who at the time were 23rd in the table having failed to win any of their first six matches.

5) Ryan Lowe
Ryan Lowe is currently manager of Plymouth Argyle and was the man to send the club back to League One at the first attempt.
It is the second consecutive season that the manager has got a team promoted, following Bury to League One in 2019/20, only for the club to be expelled after failing to secure a financial takeover.
His success at League One and Two level is bound to attract attention from clubs and the former footballer now could be the next Danny Cowley in working his way up the EFL, however it’s a risky one.
Bolton Wanderers really wanted him after the club were relegated in 2019/20, however couldn’t get his signature and he remained loyal at the Devon outfit.

4) Eddie Howe
Eddie Howe is bound to be linked with clubs for the manager’s position for however long he stays unemployed.
The 42-year-old guided the Cherries to more than 450 games across two spells spanning more than a decade but stepped down this summer following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
Their five-year stay in the top flight ended despite a 3-1 win at Everton on the final day of the season.
Howe also made more than 300 appearances as a player in the famous red and black stripes.
Howe was initially appointed AFC Bournemouth caretaker manager in December 2008, with the club sitting on -17 points at the bottom of the Football League.
Against all the odds he secured their safety and followed it with promotion from League Two the following season.
After a brief spell in charge of Burnley, a masterstroke from owner Maxim Demin bought Howe back to Dorset, and he then proceeded to achieve two further promotions in three seasons, leading the Cherries to the Premier League, where they remained for five years.

3) Nigel Pearson
Nigel Pearson was sacked back in July 2020 after a defeat away at West Ham United, yet looked to be guiding them to safety towards the end of the season.
Instead, he was axed with the club in 17th, assistants Hayden Mullins and Graham Stack took over on a caretaker basis for the final two games of the season, which then saw them drop into the relegation zone, then finish in 19th position on the final day.
Pearson has previous experience of helping a side escape deep trouble, having led Leicester to safety in 2015 when they were to the foot of the table at Christmas.
Pearson won the Championship and League One during his time with the Foxes between 2011 and 2015.
His most recent job was with Belgian First Division B side Oud-Heverlee Leuven but lasted 17 months, left them bottom of the table with just 22 points from 24 games and there were many fan protests to get him out of the club.
A few years back, he was linked to become the new manager of QPR, Bolton and Sunderland, but he didn’t get the job.

2) Paul Cook
Paul Cook is currently out of work having departed from Wigan Athletic who are in administration.
In August 2020, the Latic’s relegation to League One was confirmed due to the points deduction on the final day, despite a cracking run of form, subsequently saw the resignation of the manager.
Cook has previously managed Portsmouth, Chesterfield, Accrington, Sligo and Southport – winning the League One title with Wigan in 2017/18, the League Two title with Pompey in 2016/17 and with Chesterfield in 2013/14.

1) Tony Pulis
Sky Bet have installed Tony Pulis as the favourite for the job, however these odds are ever-changing it would seem.
61-year-old Pulis failed at getting Middlesbrough into the Championship play-offs come the end of the 2018/19 season – which lead to fans demanding for him to be sacked.
Boro decided to part ways with the former West Brom boss when the decision was taken not to extend his contract.
He has been out of work since May 2019, and it’s claimed that he snubbed a return to his home country when Cardiff wanted him as a replacement for Neil Warnock.
After struggling in the Championship, he at the time allegedly said he was not interested in a move to another second division club and somewhat thinks he’s good enough to manage in the Premier League.
Fast forward to November 2020 and Ian Dennis of the BBC said Sheffield Wednesday were believed to be in talks with at least 3 candidates to replace Garry Monk including Tony Pulis.
