Sheffield Wednesday sack their manager Garry Monk with the club sitting in the Championship relegation zone after this weekend’s result.
The Owls sit 23rd in the table, with six points, but their goalless draw against Millwall was the final straw it would seem.
The move despite the second-bottom Championship club having seen their 12-point deduction for breaching spending rules halved last week.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Sheffield Wednesday have terminated the contracts of manager Garry Monk and his staff with immediate effect.
Monk joined the Owls in September 2019 and has since overseen 58 games.
Chairman Dejphon Chansiri told swfc.co.uk: “I feel the time is right to make a change and I wish Garry and his team all the best for the future.
“I would like to say thank you for the time and effort Garry and his staff have committed to Sheffield Wednesday.”
The club will be making no further comment at this time.

He said on the performance against Millwall: “There is a bit of disbelief in that changing room at how we didn’t win that game.
“We set out to do what we wanted. We kept a clean sheet. I don’t think Joe was ever troubled.
“We dominated the game and the ball, especially in the second half.
“We created really good chances. It is just one of those things. We will keep working with them and it will drop for them.
“We need that bit more clinical finishing and less good goalkeeping!
“We have put in two good performances overall and kept two clean sheets but it is that last little bit.”

It was just four days ago that Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri said manager Garry Monk “knows what he needs to do”.
Speaking to the media on a virtual press conference on the 5th of November, Chansiri said: “At the moment, he is still here.
“I always back my coach 100 per cent all the time.
“He knows what he needs to do from the start of his job.
“We have talked about our target. Every coach is the same.”
Chansiri also hit back when he was asked about Monk’s record over the long-term, including results from 2019-20.
He added: “You can not mix two seasons together.
“When the season is finished, it’s finished. It cannot count.
“Even if you finished third, the next season you still start from zero.
“I always say to the media and to the fans, it’s easy to say ‘no good, sack him’.
“You can see from the past if you bring a manager and they don’t succeed who will they (fans) blame? They’ll blame me.
“Nobody asks me to sack all the players; there’s too many.
“For me, it’s more fault from the players. On the pitch, the manager cannot do anything.
“It’s easy to say sack the manager. You need to think, okay if we do that who will we bring in?
“We need to think who will come and who’s available. That’s not easy.
“Football is different from business. All managers have ability. They know how to manage but it depends on many things, such as luck and situations.”
Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are lifted off the bottom of the Championship table after their points deduction is now halved.

The Owls have gone from twelve points deducted to just six for breaching EFL spending rules after the club were said to have included the sale of their Hillsborough stadium in their 2017-18 accounts despite the ground being sold a year later.
The revised punishment, set by an arbitration panel on Wednesday, will see their current Championship total reduced to five and lifts them off the foot of the table.
In August 2020 the Club filed an appeal to a League Arbitration Panel against the decision of the EFL Disciplinary Commission to impose a sanction on the Club of a deduction of 12 points in season 2020/21.
The Club confirms that today its appeal was upheld in part. The decision of the League Arbitration Panel is that the sanction is reduced to a deduction of 6 points in season 2020/21.
The Club is digesting the content of the decision and will not provide further comment until it is published.
The EFL notes the decision taken by an Independent League Arbitration panel in respect of Sheffield Wednesday’s appeal against the findings of an Independent Disciplinary Commission in July 2020.
The Club was charged with breaching the league’s Profitability and Sustainability rules in November 2019 and found guilty, based on the fact that the Club should not have included profits from the sale of Hillsborough Stadium in the Club’s financial statements for the period ending July 2018.
The independent panel has today rejected the Club’s appeal related to matters surrounding the stadium sale and on consideration of the sanction; they did not agree with the Club’s assertion that a points deduction should not have been imposed. However, they did opt to reduce the sporting punishment from 12 points to six, which will be effective immediately.
Fans reacted as Sheffield Wednesday sack their manager once again…
Fuck Cowley, he failed at Huddersfield, don’t want another failing manager, I’d be tempted to go for Paul Cook me, did well at Wigan under shit circumstances, I want Howe but we all know that’d never happen??

Correct decision, well done. Hopefully we’ve got a good new appointment lined up so they can work with the squad over the international break.

Garry Monk out. Only one view counts on who’s next & it’s impossible to second guess – as shown tonight. Mine, for what it’s worth, is an early shout for Paul Cook. Great record, infectious character & ideal for whichever division #SWFC are in next season.
