Tony Cottee urges West Ham to scrap concession ticket plans as fans hit out at prices for Man City game

Tony Cottee urges West Ham to scrap “discriminatory” concession ticket plans as fans also hit out at prices for the Man City game.

It seems more an more of the national media are catching on to this, putting the matter into the spotlight and quite rightly pointing out how bad this is from the club.

Now the former footballer Tony Cottee has called on the West Ham board to scrap plans which would penalise OAPs, young supporters and families by doing away with concession ticket prices.

He spoke with Hammers United, saying: “For me it’s very worrying, and does nothing to build bridges between supporters and the Club they’ve loved for generations. How can it be right that a five-year-old will now have to pay the same as his or her Mum or Dad? I started going to watch West Ham as a nipper with my Dad back in the 70’s.

“The Club would never have dreamed of charging us the same price to watch our team, and my old man wouldn’t have taken it. The move will put thousands of loyal supporters off attending matches at the London Stadium, and potentially kill-off the fanbase of the future, as families living in tough financial times will end-up going to watch their football together elsewhere.

“I’d urge all West Ham supporters to do the right thing and get behind Hammers United’s campaign by signing the petition.”

The petition currently stands are just over 13,000 signatures and can be signed HERE.

Hammers United spoke more on the end of concessions for ‘new’ supporters…

The club has ended new concessionary tickets for Under 21s in Bands 1-4 of the London Stadium and new concessionary tickets for Over 66s in Bands 1-2. Non season ticket holders seeking to acquire U21 concessionary season tickets will be able to do so only for seats in Bands 5-6 – right at the top of the stadium with the most distant views.

Non season ticket holders seeking to acquire new pensioner concessionary tickets will not be able to purchase in bands 1-2 – seats with relatively good views. They will be able to buy in Bands 3-4 but only with a quarter discount instead of approximately half as previously. They will be offered concessions in Bands 5-6 at the old discount but these seats up 70 steps are considered unsuitable for many elderly.

There has been significant backlash from West Ham fans regarding the ticket prices for their home Premier League match against Manchester City, which is also televised on Sky Sports.

We’ve seen fans take to social media, expressing anger over what they perceive as “disgraceful” ticket prices, particularly for the match against Man City.

The highest ticket prices for the game have been reported to be £120, which applies even to Under-18s and OAPs, with fans accusing the club of “driving families out of the game” due to the high costs.

The issue of ticket pricing has been a contentious one for West Ham in recent years, with fans feeling increasingly alienated by the club’s pricing policies and even more so with tickets for the Man City game going on sale.

This is what fans are saying as Tony Cottee urges West Ham to scrap concession ticket plans and fans hit out at prices for the Man City game…

@SheridanSparkes: Timely reminder that my season ticket for 17 Bundesliga games this season was 189,-€. Stand up and make your voices heard in England. Boycott matches, don’t buy merchandise and call upon your supporter services to put pressure on the club. This taking the piss cannot continue.

@JoeyCorlett:
Adult West Ham ticket: €142
Hertha BSC season ticket: €169
Football fans in England are being absolutely rinsed and it’s an absolute pisstake. Hope to see some organised protest against it all. 🚫

@jaymeeteewhu98: I’m fortunate that I’m a season ticket holder, but these prices are an absolute disgrace. 😠⚒️

@ZaynafamilyMary: Well seeing as the odds are always against us playing City this can’t be seen as any incentive to entice West Ham fans to come and support regardless of the result. I can only assume it’s priced for tourists/Man City fans with that kind of disposable income to fill the stadium.😔

@willearle_: Disgusting never seen a club so out of touch with the fanbase

@GrazaWhu: Yet more “Affordable Family Football”… Oh wait no Brady is still in the board room and the despicable attack on concessions is still in place #GSBOUT #BradyOut #SaveOurConcessions

@Chrismcnulty75: This is a disgrace. you’re killing the club with these prices

@JoshuaHearne: Blimey! Thought Villa was bad

@hammers178: Liberty takers

@Whu_Centre: Those prices are an absolute disgrace… again

@PeterKing1968: Those prices are an absolute disgrace, pure greed ,Sullivan and Brady out

@MOCPrauge23: Affordable football ? Sold a dream delivered a nightmare Brady and Sullivan out

@TonyFinnComms: I cannot believe this is happening. The charging structure for OAPs and kids is an absolute scandal. What on earth are we doing???

@funkyfinan: Utterly disgraceful. The club needs a serious re-think on this. #SaveOurConcessions

@mikecawston: You should be ashamed of yourself @karren_brady. Affordable family football? 🤦🏻‍♂️

@WestHamDriver: People are gonna say we can’t fill our stadium. We can, if @WestHam and @karren_brady let us! ⚒

@54bobb: Scandalous pricing.

@FabienTempest:
£120 for non-members ?
You’re having a laugh!
#saveourconcessions

@HTH811: Amazing how the club loves to sell the “one club, fans are the backbone” narrative, and yet look to bleed every penny they can from the “customers”. No idea what the club is or what it means to us. Fans and history only matter when you can make a pound note from it.

@3Mutley: You want to take your 6 year old to their first ever match , minimum £110 plus booking fees to sit in the clouds . Shocking . We are a family club no more .
