Paddy Power poke fun with amusing advert for the 2026/27 football season

Paddy Power poke fun with an amusing joke filled advert for the 2026/27 football season, featuring some familiar faces.

It begins in a pub setting, a crowd of people watch the game on the TV screen, to which Danny Dyer is asked” Why do you even care?”

“He laughs, replying “Why?”, leading to a series of moments from fan culture to infamous incidents, the first being a Brighton fan dressed as a seagull, chatting with a confused look on Danny Dyer’s face.

Danny asked “Why are you wearing that?” to which the fan said “You like it? Made it myself.” Danny added “Did you?”

Then we see a man and woman kissing, only for the woman to receive a shock as it moves to the bedroom which is black and white stripes everywhere you look, including a lot of photos and memorabilia. The fan, pleased with himself, asks “Do you love it?”

Another scene sees Dyer at a party for a newborn baby, with Danny questioning the father why his daughter is called ‘Jurgen’, to which Danny Murphy says to the Dad that “could have called her Bob”, referring to his cat.

Next up, a cheeky mocking of Spygate, Peter Crouch approaches a man behind a tree, filming on his phone, asking him why, to which the spy runs off.

An angry fan beside the goal shouting at a footballer taking a long time with stuttered penalty kick.

Another is some friends meeting up in the concourse of a ground, one of them with an Erling Haaland hairstyle.

And it ends with a fan getting an ‘After Review’ tattoo, followed by a montage of all these moments shown throughout the advert, with Dyer saying “why, why, why? WHY THE FOOTBALL NOT?!”

Dyer said, as per The Sun: “Football’s a funny old game, and us fans can be a strange bunch.

“One minute you’re absolutely losing your head, saying you’re done with it – the next you’re hugging your mates and kissing some random bald geezer right on his dome.

“It doesn’t make any sense, but that’s why we love it.”

Crouch said: “Football fans are great because we’re all a little bit mad – in the best possible way.

“That’s usually where the magic comes from and leads to all those bonkers moments on and off the pitch. You don’t really need a good reason to care – you just love it anyway.”

Here’s how fans on social media reacted after Paddy Power poke fun with an amusing advert for the 2026/27 football season…

offthe.rayls: The penalty kick 😂😂😂

It follows a series of adverts Paddy power put out online throughout the World Cup, with Scottish legends Graeme Souness, Charlie Nicholas, and Gordon Strachan backing Mexico, Norway, Argentina and France ahead of their games against England.

Graeme Souness told Paddy Power: “It’s been brilliant.

“The other lads have been great too – Charlie has shown his chest more in these ads than he does on his two weeks’ holiday in Mallorca.

“And the response has been unbelievable – from my wife, who is my biggest critic, to all my mates, both north and south of the border. I went to Wimbledon, and rugby player James Haskell was there with a few others sportsmen and they all mentioned it to me and said how much they enjoyed it.”

Gordon Strachan: “It was great fun, but when I see acting on TV, I think, ‘That’s easy.’ Then you ask me to put a couple of lines in here, and I become a nervous wreck. I become an absolute zombie.”

And some critics questioned whether he fully captured the essence of each role.

“I enjoyed doing the Norway one the most. Unfortunately, my mother thought I was playing an old woman rather than Erling Haaland!”

Charlie Nicholas: “The best thing in life is laughter, and I’ve obviously really enjoyed doing these. I have to say, you boys always made me get shirtless, and I thought, ‘What’s going on here at my age?’”

“My favourite shot was the tacos for the Mexico video. I’m a great tacos fan. I’ve spent a lot of time in California, had great tacos and raved about them to my kids and friends. Then I was given a dry bit of bread and baked beans.

“I think you made me do about eight takes. That was not pleasant, but it was funny. The number of people who have said to me, ‘How did you enjoy your tacos, Charlie?’ since it went out I can’t count.

“I got one really lovely message the other day about them too. It was on the day of the England and Argentina game, and it was from David Dein, my old mate from Arsenal and the FA.

“He said, “Charlie, I’m in Atlanta. Come on, England. By the way, your Paddy Power adverts are absolutely hilarious.”

“I sent him a text saying, “Good luck tonight, pal. I hope it goes well for you,” with a wink emoji. That’s the kind of response you get. It’s been great.

“My grandson is four, and he’s into superheroes. Of course, when I did the Viking, he kept thinking I was Thor. I managed to take the big plastic hammer and the helmet home with me. He has them now, and he chases me up and down the living room with Thor’s hammer.”
