This is what Man Utd say about sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Mauricio Pochettino keen

In this article, we look at what Man Utd say about sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with reports claimining Mauricio Pochettino is keen.

It has been claimed that Ed Woodward ‘could pull the plug on Solskjaer’s troubled reign’ after the international break unless he sees a drastic upturn in results.

They were apparently considering bringing in Mauricio Pochettino following the Red Devils’ 6-1 defeat at home to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Pochettino has been out of a job since he left Tottenham in 2019, after he guided them to the Champions League Final. The Argentinian has been linked with many clubs including United, Newcastle and several clubs in Europe, but he remains out of work.

Solskjaer’s side have won one and lost two of their opening Premier League fixtures this season, and the worrying inconsistent form of late, despite a good finish to the 2019/20 campaign – finishing 3rd in the table.

Until the international deadline day, it proved to be a frustrating summer window with a lack of deals coming through. The fanbase called on and used the #WoodwardOut hashtag for months on end. Then Man Utd announced a cluster of signings including Edinson Cavani.

Talk of sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and replacing him with Mauricio Pochettino has come out in the last 24 hours in the media, however, Manchester United have played that down.

The Norwegian is already certainly under pressure just three games into the new Premier League season, but it seems the Red Devils won’t be wielding the axe just yet.

United will let Solskjaer carry on for the time being and hope that he’ll turn things around.

Solskjaer said after the humiliating 6-1 defeat: “It is embarrassing, I hold my hands up, it is my fault. It is not Manchester United.

“You don’t win games by making individual mistakes, errors and a performance like that.

“It was nowhere near good enough. Today is the worst. I can’t say any more than that. When you have a defeat like this you have to look yourself in the mirror.”

Alan Shearer slammed United on Match of the Day 2, expressing a belief that Solskjaer hadn’t been supported in the transfer market.

He said: “You can sit and criticise Man United’s back four, and rightly so because they were awful.

“But, they had no protection, whatsoever, from anyone in that midfield. Particularly Pogba and Matic.

“They were a shambles against Crystal Palace when they conceded three, they were a shambles against Brighton and were fortunate.

“They conceded all those goals today, and it should have been more.

“I can think of other words that we can use, other than shambles.

“My worry for Ole is that why haven’t they backed him?

“Why are they not investing? It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what they need.

“Why aren’t they going out and getting those players that they need?”
