Telford United set up GoFundMe page to help them repair damage to their flooded stadium

AFC Telford United set up a GoFundMe page to help them repair damage suffered to their stadium which was completely flooded this week.

The 7th tier club are asking fans for help following torrential rain and a thunderstorm which caused thousands of pounds worth of damage with water.

A number of volunteers have been helping out around the ground, but Telford will still face large financial outlay, not only to get the stadium back to how it should, but they expect to lose money, due to being unable to host matches.

The club said via their GoFundMe page: “You will by now have seen that the football club has been affected by flooding following the severe thunderstorms and rainfall that impacted the Wellington area particularly badly on Thursday, September 26th.

“Whilst several volunteers have stepped forward to help the club ‘on the ground,’ the club will undoubtedly face unanticipated financial outlay on remedial works to get the SEAH Stadium back into shape.

“There is also the potential for lost income should the club be unable to host matches, so the effect of such an event has, appropriately, a ripple effect.

“Should anyone wish to make a financial donation to help to support the club, you can do so here:

“Please note that all donations made will then support the football club with costs directly associated with the flooding.

“No money will go directly to the football club. If any residual funds remain after be passed to the AFC Telford United Foundation to support their work in the community.”

The club kept fans updated on what had happened regarding the flooding…

@telfordutd: This evening’s thunderstorm over Wellington has deluged the SEAH Stadium ⛈️👇🏻🌊
If you are available tomorrow (Friday) from 9 am onwards we’d welcome any help you could give to help us get things straightened up and dried out.”

The day after: “We are on site this morning assessing the damage caused by last night’s flooding.

“Large quantities of standing water and sludge on the concourses and through the offices, changing rooms etc appear to be the main challenge.

“We would still very much like to receive any help that people would like to offer, in the first instance this is likely to involve sweeping water and sweeping sludge.

“The playing surface water has largely soaked in but although it looks OK it is clearly sodden and unplayable.

“Our main issue will be to clean water out from areas where it is not supposed to be, such as the concourses.”

Further update on Friday: “It’s around 24 hours since the deluge landed on the SEAH Stadium and left us underwater.

“From being overwhelmed with water, we have been overwhelmed again today, this time by kindness.

“There remains much to do, and we have so many people to thank that doing so will take some time.

“Here is an update to the situation inside the ground:

“At the end of Friday, a small army of staff and volunteers had pumped or swept most of the water that had entered the SEAH Stadium.

“We now have to wait for things to dry out over the weekend, so it is likely that if we request physical help once more, it will be to help us mop the floors clean, etc.

“Working out what has been damaged by water ingress and will need replacing or repairing will be another task for early next week, but again, we have received offers of assistance that have left us very humble.

“If we have not answered any individual requests offering help or requesting information, we can only offer our apologies. It truly has been a case of ‘all hands to the pumps’ today, and people should be in no doubt that the continued clean-up will go on for some time.

“The Wolves Women’s team’s fixture scheduled for Sunday (29th) will now go ahead at Compton.

“Thank you again to everyone who has offered and given their time and effort to help us get back on our feet. We also appreciate the many messages of support we have received and also the media coverage; we would much rather have received this for our achievements on the pitch, but we are in no doubt that the widespread coverage helped to generate many of the offers of assistance we have received.

Here’s how fans reacted as Telford United set up GoFundMe page to help them repair damage to their flooded stadium…

@jertzeedon: Just donated. I mean, if we at Wimbledon can’t help another victim of flooding… Telford was one of the first teams I remember watching us play back in the 70’s. Like us, you’ve had troubles since. Good luck.

@fishbelfast: Remembering Telford from Southern League days and in view of our recent flood damage I have donated £5 to your cause as an @AFCWimbledon supporter.

@MWoodfinden: @VancityReynolds @RMcElhenney any chance you could share or help out in local team flooding

@Jaiwolf: Dear fellow Wolves fans. I’m reaching out this morning hoping that anyone who follows me sees this message and can donate to the Go Fund Me. AFC Telford’s ground has been badly affected by flooding. This the home of Wolves Women and Wolves Youth squads. Please share and donate.

@Sm0ggs: Where’s the #FootballFamily now? Football is a unity.. if bigger clubs can help then they should do what they can where they can.. not all clubs have billionaire Arab owners where these issues aren’t even a thing on the agenda.

@wellygoggs: Come on @Wolves 🤝

@peach_ian: As an AFC Wimbledon fan living in Cannock, my thoughts are with you, hopefully yours just drains away eventually and isn’t damaged too badly like ours unfortunately was.

@SamThrower1887: If anyone has a fiver going they could do without, please help out my old local non league side, Shropshire’s been battered last few days and its taken the Bucks Head with it. Clubs on the ropes financially with this!

@jacob_mkd: 100k for Telford guys, because we all care about the greater good in football right?

@alexafcw9696: Surely we can pass on the good deed and donate the 15k Newcastle gave us? @AFCWimbledon

@SiWheeler78: With the @AFCWimbledon fund raiser on hold, for the time being anyway, @telfordutd also need the help of the football family to achieve the same aim, repair, removal of water and getting home games on!

@the_bennetts_: It would be amazing if @Wolves would be able to help, in any which way possible! @NathanJudah @LiamKeen_Star @WolvesAcademy

@Twitsham83: @Fosun_Intl should just send them the full 5k
