Suspended jail terms given to Bolton Wanderers player Kyle Dempsey and his father as CCTV footage emerges on social media amid the news.
The League One footballer has been handed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, after being found guilty of Actual Bodily Harm.
This comes as Kyle and his father Michael admitted an assault on a club doorman in Maryport in July of last year.
Kyle Dempsey has been given a 12 month suspended sentence for what Judge Unsworth called a “ruthless, merciless and ugly attack” on a club bouncer.https://t.co/8AXVD3ToXG

After ruling that neither man had been provoked nor that either acted in self defence, a Carlisle Crown Court judge issued the sentences, The Bolton News reports.
Kyle Dempsey (27) and his father (50) were sentenced for attacking Darryl Jarvis outside Maryport Labour Club after he had just been doing his job.
Both the duo had previously admitted to an assault on Mr Jarvis in actual bodily harm during a violent incident at club on the 16th of July 2022,. Dempsey senior also admitted to causing criminal damage to a door.
Kyle Dempsey received a 12-month sentence in jail, suspended for 18-months, and ordered to do 200 hours of community work. He also had to comply with an electronic monitored curfew that runs from 9pm to 7am every day.
He must compensate the victim of £1,500.
Michael Dempsey handed a 13 month jail sentence. He was also suspended for an additional 18 months. There were 20 rehab activity days, 200 hours of unpaid work and a 120-day alcohol abstinence. All will be electronically monitored. Dempsey was also ordered to pay £1,500 compensation to the victim.
He must stick to a two month long, 9pm-7am curfew.
The father and son had previously opted for a “trial in issue” before the judge. This was on the basis of their claim to violence as a response to “provocation” by their victim.
The prosecution rejected this claim with Judge Ian Unsworth KC giving his ruling, explaining that he had looked at the CCTV images that captured much of the incident, as can be seen below…
Kyle Dempsey admitted that he had been left feeling embarrassed and may have ruined his career. He attacked Jarvis, who was left bleeding and in pain.
Kyle Dempsey and Michael Dempsey forced their way in to the club, they were previously barred entry from.
The defence claimed that the footballer and father were reckless and used excessive self defence, but Judge Unsworth rejected this claim.
The prosecution refuted their claim that they were acting in excess self-defence and went “overboard”.
Revelations revealed that Kyle Dempsey was briefly knocked unconscious by a man. The court heard that he had previously caused trouble for them. The man was seen walking towards the Labour Club around 10.30pm, with his father and son following him in an attempt to talk with him.
After Kyle Dempsey turned up at the club with a “swarm”, Mr Jarvis said that he “pulled” Kyle Dempsey out.
He said that Michael Dempsey punched and struck his face. The bouncer then described feeling “multiple strikes” to his body, face, and head as he was being “bent twice” and being kept down.
Mr Jarvis got away, reported the incident club management, and bolted the front doors shut while other members were locked outside. He said that the door “burst” while he was receiving medical attention and Michael Dempsey began to charge at him “aggressively”.
Jarvis denied that he used any restraint techniques and said he had a broken nose. He also suffered chipped teeth, bruised his ribs, heavy bleeding, and a significant cut to his head.
Michael Dempsey stated: “As a parent, you just want your son and family to be safe. Our actions are embarrassing.”
The father said he was “clearly angry” and determined to get to the man who was throwing punches at his son in the earlier incident on the street, the court heard.
In the violence that played out afterwards, said Judge Unsworth, he was satisfied that neither defendant was acting in self defence.
Each man will be subject to a nighttime curfew, wear an electronic tag at night, and pay £1,500 each.

This is what social media users said as suspended jail terms are given to the Bolton player and his father as CCTV footage emerges…
@greeny_aj: Plays first half then has to go home midweek?
@callumdowning:
🎶 He swings to the left,
He swings to the right,
Oh Kyle Dempsey,
Makes Usyk looks shite 🎶 #bwfc
@PhilipShortland: My thoughts are with his victim. Whether or not the club choose to cancel his contract is a matter for Sharon Brittan. It’s a test of leadership.
@Wesbwfcagain1: Odds on Kyle Dempsey to score the winner at Wembley in league 1 play off final and belt a bouncer in popworld the same night @RequestABet
@IANHALLIDAY7: I like the lad as a player, comes across ok in engagement with fans but this isn’t good. Will impact on his ability to do what he’s getting paid for, at least in the two night games plus probably this Sat. Will get away with Bristol R due to midday KO
@Sambatime11: The cctv footage doesn’t look good. Bolton player or not. Very lucky.
@scowie26:
Dempsey’s big and bad and so’s his dad!
Baddest men in the whole dam town.
Bouncers beware, everywhere!!!!
Come and have a go if you dare!
#bwfc
@BurndenWay: He’s shown contrition & plead guilty – which is good. Hopefully the club will no longer be so quick/rash with their initial club statements in the future which made Dempsey out to be the innocent victim. That punishment & that video is very bad #BWFC
@alexsmart1994: Would only happen to Bolton, our best player put on tag on a 9pm curfew and will miss a few games and we are in the playoffs places we love doing it the hard way as per 🤷🏻♂️🙈 #bwfc
@alexgreeny3: kyle dempsey twats who he wants, shame he won’t be able lift the play off final trophy cos it’ll be past his curfew #bwfc
@jamesbwfc22: Curfew between 9pm – 7am – exempt for night games I hope 🤣
@VanillaKriptix: Tagged curfew? Am I supposed to believe he’s that good at bossing our midfield that they’re trying to weigh down his leg??
@Rae_Doherty_93: Oh Dempsey 🫣 #bwfc
@nathjnzy: Kyle Dempsey’s magic, he wears a magic tag #bwfc
@charlie_marsh10: can’t play night games or the longer away days where he won’t be back before 9pm 😭
@bwfc454: Four month tagged curfew fuck off, judge either a Burton or Accy fan then since there the only night games 😂
@GrandpaGarner: He needs to apologise to the club for the shame he has brought on us. Then, behave himself on and off the pitch.
@liamblues: Should be getting the jail for murder after what he did to Plymouth at Wembley.
@Marcus_Chester: I believe the implications for his time @OfficialBWFC will become clear over the next few days. This really is a test of the clubs values: ‘Family. Faith. Football.’ Puts the owners between a rock and a hard place. They’ve kept quiet re this, but they’ll have to say something now
