Surprise twist sees Lewes player Ollie Tanner REJECT Tottenham with statement issued

Surprise twist sees Lewes player Ollie Tanner REJECT Tottenham with a club statement issued over the break down in talks this weekend.

Spurs supporters have ripped into their own club on social media once more after they failed to agree personal terms with the non league player.

They had recently entered talks with Tanner, who plays for with Isthmian League Premier Division club Lewes, after agreeing a deal in principle to sign him.

The 19 year old winger had been attracting interest from the likes of Southampton, Cardiff and Luton, while Brighton are said to have seen a bid rejected.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Lewes Football Club would like to confirm that whilst the club and a Premier League club agreed a deal in principle for the transfer of Ollie Tanner, Ollie and the Premier Club were not ultimately able to agree personal terms and he remains a Lewes FC player.

Tanner missed today’s game against AFC Hornchurch due to an injury sustained midweek and we look forward to welcoming him back to the side as soon as he has recovered.

– STATEMENT ENDS –

Spurs fans fumed at Ollie Tanner’s old tweets trolling Tottenham a few years back,  uncovering posts which showed him mocking Harry Kane’s speech and cheering for their Premier League rivals Arsenal.

One supporter told Tanner to ‘do one’ and another called for Daniel Levy to have the lad replaced because such remarks on social media were made.

He said: ‘This Ollie Tanner can do one as well. Arsenal fan and has slagged off Kane online for the way he speaks. #LevyOut #ENICOut’

While it won’t worry Antonio Conte as much, Tanner’s decision is the latest low point in what has been a miserable January window for Spurs having seen Adama Traore and Luis Diaz snub them for Barcelona and Liverpool respectively.

Tottenham have now turned their attention to a potential loan deal for Dejan Kulusevski and are in talks with Juventus for the winger as they really try to secure a deal to strengthen the squad before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

The 21-year-old has made 27 appearances for Juventus in all competitions this season, but has started only seven of those and has scored just twice.

Twitter users reacted to the surprise twist which sees Lewes player Ollie Tanner REJECT Tottenham with a statement issued…

@ArsenalAnoop: Spurs got battered by non league teams too 😂😂 everywhere they go 🎶

@StevenP1991: I hope his decision was based on footballing reasons and not the completely unnecessary abuse he’s received recently. Good luck to him

@SalibaEra_: Tottenham Hotspur get battered wherever they go😂🤦‍♂️

@Lacazetteeeee: He knows the biggest club in London, can’t blame him.

@63AHMED36: @OllieTanner108 keep your head up, don’t mind all the noise

@NLFootballLover: Pathetic behaviour by so many Spurs fans. The reaction to Ollie has been a disgrace. He’s a 19-year-old lad who has impressed and deserves his chance higher up. Hope he can prove himself on a bigger stage as he deserves it. Well done to Lewes on how they’ve handled this.

@spurscc: Personal abuse is not acceptable, whether that’s spurs fans abusing an up and coming footballer or a 16yo mocking someone’s physical impediments.

@JordanTrow: Couldn’t agree personal terms? Behave. They backed out of the deal after your stupid comments came to light. Spurs pulled out the deal. However you are only a kid and it’s just you being immature.

@fin52624815: No disrespect to the guy but why r u even trying to sign for a club u clearly don’t like and make jokes about there best player, muppet

@AHaff24: Imagine not being able to reach personal terms… with a team 8 tiers above you

@robshrl: So now @SpursOfficial can’t agree terms with a kid from non league

@JosephVines: I’ve never seen a young talent like @OllieTanner108 so whilst disappointed that he hasn’t got his league move just yet, I’m certain it will come. Pathway to first team is crucial when you’ve been playing mens football and the 3 points have a meaning.

@UnderstandingF8: The lengths @SpursOfficial goes to make #arsenal fans feel all right in a transfer window is simply unbelievable. I don’t have any hatred for them anymore, I just want them to co-exist with us for these hard times. Not being able to agree personal terms with #OllieTanner

@lsdevo10: Just see Ollie Tanner turned down Spurs but could be a good move. A move into EFL and 1st team football should be target rather than into a 23s setup.

@OneRedRam: He is very good, certainly too good for the Isthmian League Premier Division. At 19 he should be at a Pro Club. Hope he’s getting good advice and not being misguided

@robertfenech: Everyone saying he’s stupid, or greedy. You have no idea what’s going on behind closed doors. You don’t know what he’s been offered. I hope the lad has some good guidance and good people around him.

@Jason12829272: True, might be football league team offering better chance of first football, then be stuck in u23s Tottenham.

@SWS1948: Why move to a smaller club

@NickHarding91: All the spurs fans saying he bottled it 😂 Spurs have highlighted a non league gem to the whole of professional football. How long before a club where he isn’t going to get abuse from the fans comes along? Typical delusional spurs fans 🤦🏻‍♂️
