Surprise new contender for Leeds job revealed as shortlist of managers emerges

A surprise new contender for the Leeds United job is revealed as a shortlist of managers emerges according to reports on Tuesday.

After seeing another top candidate was eliminated from their list, as Leeds now look to talk to former Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira about their vacant managerial position.

49ers Enterprises has bought out Andrea Radrizzani, with the Italian’s reign coming to an end on a low note as Leeds dropped out of the Premier League. Even a late-season gamble on the Sam Allardyce couldn’t save them.

Leeds are preparing to make big changes after dropping from the top tier of English football, with a new manager needed and Nick Hammond already being appointed interim director for football – as well as several new players.

The Whites are eager to get started as the new EFL campaign begins in only 46 days time, with cup draws and fixtures released this Thursday.

Vieira, 46, is now in the running to be their next manager. In March, his reign at Palace was ended after a difficult run of matches.

Vieira may be offered a way back to football at Elland Road with reports that he’s one of the two main contenders for the vacant position. Last week, we reported that Daniel Farke is also a strong candidate. The German was in the running.

The Sun also reports that Scott Parker, another candidate, is in the running.

Two contenders, however, have since dropped out in just a few hours.

Leeds watched Andoni Iraola, go to Bournemouth, having previously been a contender when Jesse Marsch was removed. The Spaniard was also said to be being considered again.

The 40-year old is now out of the running due to his quick appointment by the Cherries, the same day they fired Gary O’Neil.

The Whites have also decided against signing Carlos Corberan having previously a strong opinion of him, given his longstanding association with the club.

The club has decided to reject his decision for two reasons. They want a manager with Premier League experience. 49ers Enterprises is also looking for a manager that does not currently have any ties with another club.

They have also decided not to make a move because Corberan is contracted with Championship rivals West Brom.

Leeds want to have a new boss in place by the end of this week, then again, tis is what was said this time last week.

49ers Enterprises hopes that the new man will be a success and help the club recover at the first attempt.

Here’s what fans are saying with a surprise new contender for the Leeds job revealed as a shortlist of managers emerges…

@DazF3110: Potter, Farke, Corberán and we’re looking at Vieira! Jesus Christ #lufc

@_blaneardley: This would be a cracking appointment

@George77Z: Good move for him

@joshjacksonlrfc: Jesus 😂 wouldn’t bother. Shocking manager

@beton_wayne: Please no please

@iGerLynch: A man who’s tactical approach was figured out after a year. Him and Gerrard are in the same category for me. A name. Good player, but watching Palace collapse last season and get dragged into a relegation battle. His side barely had a shot on goal in last 10 games. #lufc

@lufcjaack: I thought with Radrizzani leaving and 49ers taking over we wouldn’t be so slow to act and would be on the ball with managerial appointments but it’s the same old shite, pre season starting very soon, fixtures out in two days, a lot of work to be done! #lufc

@SouthportSwanny: @LUFC I wonder if #LUFC are looking for a manager who will continue to push a narrow, vertical attacking style of play or bring change? I’d like to see our team play 4-3-3 with a false 9. Offers wide cover & attack and protection through the middle. Do we have a 9? #mot

@alexjl30: Farke and Vieira are both good options in the championship, would prefer Farke but would be confident that both get us up.

@Hardyboy79: Oh please fuck off! Ask any palace fan if he was any good and they’ll all say no. He spent months telling the fans to trust the process only to walk away just as the team got near relegation. Fuck him off. Stop fucking about and get Farke in! #lufc

@_JordanMatthew: I was actually looking forward to coming down and going again but with the shite gaffers we are linked to really makes me sad. How bad a coach do you have to be to get replaced by an 80 year old. Get Farke NOW

@robynmayxx: seriously scraping the barrel, we are fucking tragic

@PremierLeedsMOT: Would not be disappointed at this.

@aleemislambro: Just give it to Farke fucking hell it’s not difficult.

@lewis__lufc: He’s so fucking shit please no

@Guysley: I met Patrick Vieira in Heathrow airport in 2001. Told him he should come to Leeds. 22 years on, seems he’s finally taking my advice

@Niall_LUFC: Farke is the most sensible and realistic option we could ever go with, Get it done Leeds ffs 😑😑

@minshull4: First choice farke but I’d rather have gerrard over vieira. Get fucking something done Leeds eh 😤

@AIILeedsArentWe: surely the 49ers can see that Farke is a miles better option than Vieira

@ConnorMOT92: Unsure about Vieira tbh, just appoint Farke. #LUFC
