It has been confirmed that Sunderland have appointed Phil Parkinson as their new first team manager.
He replaces Jack Ross, who was sacked by the Black Cats on the 8th of October after picking up five wins out of their first 11 league games this season, leaving them 9th in the League One table.
Phil Parkinson resigned from his role as manager of Bolton Wanderers, ending a three year spell, due to the financial situation and before the takeover went ahead.
He won promotion to the Championship in his first season, they spent two seasons in the Championship, they survived the drop in their first season by finishing 21st, but were relegated the following campaign by ending up second from bottom.
He was listed in the favourites for managerial jobs at many EFL sides since then including Barnsley, Reading and Southend United.
Parkinson has also previously managed Charlton Athletic, Hull City and Colchester United, all between 2003 and 2016. He’s also had a playing career, where he made appearances for Southampton, Reading and Bury.
