Football fans have given their thoughts as reports came out that Stoke would hold internal discussions following the James McClean incident, and a fair few didn’t hold back their feelings…
Sack him immediately, not regarding the poppy issue. He thinks he’s bigger than the football club and is willing to jeopardize harmony on the team for himself… Adding to the fact he’s a woefully bad footballer it’s one of life’s no brainers

It’s the clubs fuckin fault ffs, just drop him every year !! No controversy
— Paul Feeney (@paulfeen68) November 4, 2018
Keep him in the reserves until he offers a full unreserved apology to fans, management and Peter Coates. Stoke don’t need him. We have better youngsters than this hasbeen.

Get rid
— Nick Holdcroft ????? (@SwifNick37) November 5, 2018
This needs to be transparent. He made his comments and Instagram public so the fans deserve to know what the outcome is

Whether or not to wear a poppy is a personal choice. I think that Stoke City FC were very naive to expose James McClean to that environment. He should have remained on the bench.

Others once again came out in defence of the player…
@stokecity have to take some responsibility for this by unnecessarily highlighting his decision…
Everyone knows @JamesMcC_14 thoughts on it, why did Stoke have to make a big issue of it..??— Swindonian (@SouthCoastRed) November 5, 2018
Done nothing wrong

He was right to post on Twitter.. nobody is standing up for him, it’s about time he said it.. there’s a lot of uneducated knuckle draggers are either too ashamed of or not educated in how the British armed forces went about their business in certain places over the years…
— Dermot Mc Geough (@croaghcreg) November 5, 2018
He’s right though, the reasons for his decision have been known for years and respected by all of his employers just as they should be. I don’t wear a poppy in my work (in England) and no one has a pop at me. There are plenty of locals who don’t wear one and don’t get any grief.
