Steve Evans says he has been left disgusted by a number of chants aimed at him from Mansfield Town fans during Rotherham’s 1-0 defeat.
Rotherham failed to capitalise on having the advantage of the wind first half, with the Stags producing the only goal of the game, coming in the 27th minute.
A free kick taken by Keanu Baccus was cleared to Aaron Lewis. Lewis directed a header forward, and the ball deflected off a defender’s head, setting up Deji Oshilaja, who calmly finished past Dillon Phillips. This victory meant it was Mansfield’s first win in eight league matches.
The result leaves Mansfield sitting 10th in the League One table with 28 points from 19 games played, 3 points from the playoffs, while Rotherham are 18th with 23 points from 19 games and 4 points above the drop zone.
Steve Evans said, per chad.co.uk: “Some of the words said at me today have no place in society, let alone football,” he said.
“It is nothing against Nigel Clough, they beat us and I have just congratulated him.
“The people singing that today should not be in society.”
“The wind spoiled it and made it a nonsense game,” added Evans.
“They took advantage of a huge error to score the only goal and we didn’t get that advantage at the other end.
“We tried to change it up in the second half and we changed formation and personnel.
“We got into some great areas, but it didn’t quite happen for us.
“I was disappointed by how few attempts on goal we had in the first half with all the play we had.
“Maybe our forwards believed the hype from last week – if you believe the hype in football it doesn’t happen for you.
“If we came here again tomorrow we’d fancy ourselves, but that wind was a real leveller.
“We will be back at the training ground on Monday and we still have the opportunity to have a good Christmas.”

Mansfield’s Nigel Clough said, per chad.co.uk: “It feels good and I think it’s been coming for the last few weeks.
“It has been an incredible calendar year.
“We’ve had a brilliant home record, we have been promoted, and here we are halfway up League One going into the Christmas period – there is a lot to be optimistic about going forward.
“We said we probably wouldn’t be at our best when we do win a game, but conditions again made it extremely difficult.
“Goalkeepers were trying to kick the ball and it was coming back on them. It made it very tricky indeed and I thought it was a very reasonable game considering that.
“The biggest threat we faced today were set plays and I thought we generally dealt with them very well.
“We came back out brilliantly for the second half and were a bit unlucky not to get that second goal.
“We played some very good stuff and I thought we did enough over the half to subdue them and I don’t think Christy Pym has had a serious save to make in that second half.”
“It was a brilliant finish,” he said.
“We were a little fortunate. It was a good header back in by Aaron Lewis, who played very well today, we got a little break and Deji tucked it away.
“We certainly have not had breaks like that in the past six games.
“The last two games we have been very solid and restricted the opposition to few opportunities while creating enough ourselves.
“On the back of last week that is a good four points we’ve got and we go into the Christmas games in better heart.”

Twitter users reacted as with Steve Evans disgusted by chants aimed at him from Mansfield fans during Rotherham’s defeat…
@markdavison32: Away fans also giving it him. Deserved aswell.
@maltbymauler: Time to go methinks.
@nigelmelia67: We are struggling to get any momentum this has to change otherwise nothing will happen this year.
@AGardener108: Thought the players might have learnt something from the game at Crawley
@owenRufc11: Shocking, there keepers had a training session today, get him out and get the board gone
@millersfm2011: Gash. And as others have said. It’s time for a change of ownership. Yes he saved us. But all good things come to an end. We need a total change. Today was wank to put it blunt. Awful display.
@markdavison32: Got to go.
@spikerobinson4: Great to see Steve get rattled by the Stags fans……. again 🤣🤣🤣
@YaBoiTudz: We lacked a game plan, we lacked creativity, we lacked holding the ball up, we lacked having options, we lacked creating a chance. Yeah players were shite but so was the game plan. Setting up like pub teams do, here’s your formation go and play however you want with it.
@jrelliott_84: Nothing is gonna change while this fat cretin is in charge. We’ve always been pretty direct and been successful with it in this division but this football under him is something else. Should’ve been sacked a month ago but he’s gonna get chance to waste another transfer window!!
@ldgmostdef: Our away record is totally unacceptable. If it wasn’t for Nombe falling over at relegation battlers Cambridge, we’d be 25 months without an away win. Look at Barnsley, 2 home wins since Feb, getting thumped by Orient at home. And they made us look dire that night. #rufc
@TheRyanBatteson: Second half from Rotherham yesterday was indefensible. How do you go 1-0 down and play the full second half in your own box. Shit show #RUFC
@niall_m91: Can’t emphasise enough how funny it is that there are people who boo the players throughout a game, jeer every misplaced pass, chant about how bad they are, then have the audacity to complain that the manager criticises them in the post-match media. Braindead. #rufc
@RossMid38810197: More garbage served up away from home. Shows how poor Northampton were last week. Don’t think booing during the game helps, by all means vent frustration afterwards but not during in my humble opinion #rufc
@The_RUFC: Thought booing the team at 1-0 down worked really well again, just like at Barnsley. It seemed to inspire confidence in the players and brought out the best in them. Think the crowd can pat themselves on the back for helping the team turn it round and win 3 points today 👏🏼 #RUFC
