Fleetwood confirm sacking of manager Charlie Adam as defeat at Barrow extends woeful form

Fleetwood Town confirm the sacking of manager Charlie Adam as a 2-0 defeat at Barrow extends the Cod Army’s woeful form this season.

The 39 year old lasted just under a year, with his time ending following a run of one win in their past 11 league games.

Defeat on Saturday became their fifth defeat in a run which also includes five draws, and they also were knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round against Reading in November.

He was unable to keep Fleetwood in League One last season, and continued to turn their fortunes around currently sitting 18th in League Two, eight points above the relegation zone.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Fleetwood Town can confirm Charlie Adam has left the club with immediate effect.

Owner Jamie Pilley said: “I’d like to personally thank Charlie for his commitment and professionalism over the last 12 months.

“He’s been a pleasure to work with but recent results meant we felt a change was necessary.

“I wish him well for the future.”

All at Fleetwood Town would like to thank Charlie for his hard work and commitment.

The Club will issue a further update on the first team staff in due course.

POST MATCH INTERVIEW:

Interviewer: Charlie, another disappointing afternoon for you.

Charlie: Yep. We’re gonna have to battle through this tough period. Key injuries to key players over the whole season that has got us to this point, And it’s, and, like you say, it’s it’s effectiveness, but we have to battle through. We can’t shrink. We can’t, hide from it. We’ll it’s important that we show personality and we get through this period that we’re in.

Interviewer: Afternoon when they were on the front foot pretty much from the word going, 2 goals in 10 minutes, you’re always up against it then?

Charlie: Yeah. Absolutely. And the wind plays its part, but, I think where where we’re at in terms of the group and and what’s gonna, hopefully, happen in the next couple of weeks in terms of getting players back. That will make a big difference to to our team going forward.

Interviewer:  Do you think out there on the field today, it’s fair to say there was a lack of leadership from possibly some of your senior players?

Charlie: Of course. Of course. You have to be able to stand up when things are going going well. You you take the plaudits. When things are tough, you you wanna see the character and you wanna show, you know, the right character within the group. I feel for these supporters. I feel for them. I could they’re frustrated. They’re hurt because they support the football club. But as the manager, I pick the players, and, I understand that. And, you know, we we have to to really battle through this way, and and we have have to find the answers because, if not, then then, obviously, it’s gonna be a longer season than than it is at the moment.

Interviewer:  You struggled defensively from set pieces this afternoon?

Charlie:  Yeah. Yeah. We have done, and, something that we’ve been good at. But, today, for some reason, you know, we struggled. But getting key players back in the next, you know, hopefully, for Boxing Day will make a difference to the group and to the team.

Interviewer:   Is there a possibility that Brendan and Elliott will be involved in that?

Charlie: Yep. Yep. They come right into contention now. I can’t afford to be protecting people now. They’ll come into my thoughts for, for Boxing Day, and they been training now for, you know, a better take time. And, we’ll see where we’re at come come Monday.

Interviewer: Of course, in many respects, the game comes around very quickly now. Christmas is one of those periods when there’s a lot of games one after the other. Is that a good or a bad thing in terms of trying to recover for that game?

Charlie: We’ll recover right. You know, the lads will prepare. They’ll train. They’ll do the right things. It’s the best part of being a footballer. It’s the Christmas period. Loads of games, and it gives people an opportunity. You know, I bring 2 young academy players on today, and Davenport and Smith. And I thought when they come on, they showed a bit of energy and a bit of, you know, game knowledge. And, yeah, it’s an opportunity for everybody that’s fit and available within the football club to get into the team for, Chesterfield.

This is how fans reacted as Fleetwood confirm sacking of manager Charlie Adam as defeat at Barrow extends their woeful form…

@jkanalysis7: Recent performances have been unacceptable, it’s the right decision. Time to appoint someone who knows how to get out of this league & can adapt. This current crop of players are not bad, they just need to be in a better, more fluid system. Any names we should look at? #ftfc

@korban_rayner: #bantams Fleetwood 1 win since 5th October that was against us charity FC, Notts County hasnt won since october wiped the floor with us, charity FC, year after year Bradford City AFC, Charity club.

@StandingAlone77: Everyone said they would be top half and obviously they still could be under a new manager, but I said back August they would struggle. Paper thin up front and at the back, this has been trending the wrong way for a while. Not surprised.

@zece7: How these pumped 6 past us still amazes me

@dcooke1989: Couldnt happen to a nicer bloke 🤣🤣🤣

@TheWulfster: This was inevitable. Stupid appointment and even a worse decision to keep him at the reigns this season. We’ll do well to avoid the relegation scrap this season.

@CallumHallett6: Was coming… A shame that it came to this point but it is definitely deserved for Charlie Adam. #FTFC have really struggled recently, after a bright start to their L2 campaign. I wonder who they might get in? 👀

@ftfc_lewis: Talks so well in his interviews. Never actually did anything to prove that. Preferably need someone in with a bit of experience next 🙏🏻

@niallw92: Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Charlie. 👋🏼

@SamJTurner86: This isn’t surprising. He was a breath of fresh air when he first came in but the results have declined rapidly over recent weeks and we need to make a change before it’s too let to rescue our season

@1JamieMcKenzie: Groundhog Day!!! @jamie_milligan8 surely now is your chance

@12knellj: PONDY!!

@TLongney38536: Wade Elliot is out of work, would be perfect for you guys. 😉

@walsall3103: That 6-2 win really kickstarted your season didn’t it 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@Mattftfc: Merry Christmas 😄

@edward_w97: Got a theory that Fleetwood are slowly working their way through Scotland’s midfield from the 2010s. Darren Fletcher fancy it next?

@JLM_1903: Fancy taking back a former manager of yours in Graham Alexander
