Southport PA announcer goes viral telling fans off after trouble in friendly with Blackpool

A female Southport PA announcer goes viral after she was heard telling fans off after trouble flared up in a friendly with Blackpool.

Players, Blackpool chief exec Ben Mansford and secretary Nick Horne, had to go over to give the supporters a talking to before the game resumed on 36 minutes.

Judging from the footage, there wasn’t exactly much in it, rather just kids trying to kick up a fuss, with teenagers bizarrely choosing to walk around the entirety of the ground to confront the away end – and when Southport lads was confronted by a number of Blackpool fans, it caused the youngsters to scarper.

She said: “They shouldn’t have to do this. A reminder to everyone, enjoy yourselves, it’s a friendly. If you don’t behave yourselves, you’ll all be going home.

“We would like anyone that’s on the terraces to move up to past the halfway line.

She then could be heard saying again: “This is a stadium announcement, I shouldn’t have to make this announcement at a friendly. The referee has stopped the game for 10 minutes.

“If anything happens like that again, the referee has made it clear, he will be abandoning this match. So behave yourselves.”

At half time, Southport seemingly made light of the incident by playing Kaiser Chiefs’ “I Predict A Riot” over the tannoy system, before being ordered to stop.

We attended reports of a disturbance during the match between Southport FC and Blackpool FC at Haig Avenue on Saturday (2 July).

It was reported just after 3.30pm that the game had been stopped by match officials due to fighting among rival fans in the stands.

Upon the arrival of officers, there was no further disorder and fans left in an orderly manner.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Merseyside Police is working with Southport FC to study CCTV of the incident as enquiries into the incident continue.

Chief Inspector Matthew Moscrop said: “Our message to the small minority of fans intent on carrying out disorder at any match is that such behaviour is unacceptable and will simply not be tolerated.

“We can and do identify those responsible for such incidents and can issue a range of sanctions, including Banning Orders.

“We will be working closely with both clubs to investigate this disturbamce and I want to thank the vast majority of supporters who attended the game in good spirits.

“I would ask anyone who witnessed anything or anyone with information to come forward and we will take appropriate action.”

Following the events at the pre-season friendly against Blackpool on Saturday 2 July which led to the match referee having to stop the game for 10 minutes whilst order was restored in the crowd, this is now a Police matter.

Accordingly, we are working with Merseyside Police and assisting in any way we can to enable its officers to complete their investigation and instigate criminal proceedings, where deemed appropriate by the Police, as quickly as possible.

The Club will be making no further comment whilst this investigation is ongoing.
