Shocking moment fan gets ‘knocked out’ after heavy push by copper with police force criticised

The shocking moment a fan gets ‘knocked out’ after a heavy push by a copper has gone viral with Greater Manchester police force criticised.

Footage has emerged on Twitter showing what happened, recorded by a fan who was on the coach outside Old Trafford after the Carabao Cup clash against Manchester United.

The clip is around 34 seconds long, and in it you can hear the reaction to a fan being pushed to the ground and left for cold as the officers take someone away.

@JamesDowsett17 simply wrote with the video: “Disgusting @gmpolice #cafc”

This then caught the attention of @FairCop_ who give advice for fans on football policing, stewarding, club bans or referral to specialist solicitors.

The account wrote in reaction to the video: “Officers have to justify use of force. I’d love to see how this push was thought proportionate and appropriate. @gmpolice.

“And if anybody knows these individuals I’d be happy to assist with advice and if necessary referral for legal help. #cafc @CAStrust @ISLO_MUST.

The voices heard in the video start of jokey, one guy saying “You’re nicked!” before gasps are heard when the officer does what he does to the fan.

The video recorder confirms she got it recorded, before others next to her are left disgusted and in shock at the fan being left on the ground without being checked on.

They all feel concerned for the fan, with three police officers walking away with one other fan being taken away. One copper even looks back to the direction of the knocked out fan, before turning his head as if he saw nothing.

The game itself saw Man Utd beat the League One side 3-0 at Old Trafford to reach the Carabao Cup semi-finals; Marcus Rashford scores late double after Antony’s fine first-half strike; Man Utd youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Facundo Pellistri make senior debuts

Player ratings (via Sky Sports)

Man Utd: Heaton (7), Dalot (6), Maguire (7), Martinez (7), Malacia (6), McTominay (6), Fred (8), Antony (7), Mainoo (6), Garnacho (7), Elanga (6).

Subs: Wan-Bissaka (6), Eriksen (6), Rashford (8), Casemiro (7), Pellistri (7).

Charlton: Maynard-Brewer (7), Clare (6), Inniss (6), Ness (6), Sessegnon (6), Morgan (6), Dobson (7), Fraser (6), Rak-Sakyi (6), Leaburn (6), Blackett-Taylor (6).

Subs: O’Connell (6), Payne (6), Stockley (n/a), Henry (n/a).

Player of the match: Fred.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag:“The first half an hour I was quite happy. I was less happy with not being clinical in front of goal. We need to be more effective there because we created good chances in the first half an hour.

“We should have scored more in the first half and also in the second half there was a good save and a few moments where we needed an extra pass, but we didn’t so until the end we had to fight for it.

“I don’t think they created really good open chances but still you never know. We are progressing after the winter break, this is the third time we have won 3-0 which is good but we have to be more clinical.”

On Marcus Rashford, Ten Hag said: “I have told you many times, when he brings himself into position, when the team puts him in the positions, in the one-on-ones in the box he will score and that is what he is doing at this moment.

“So if he keeps the focus and keeps putting the effort in, he will keep on scoring.

“What you see now with Rashy, that is quite obvious. It wasn’t at the start of the season but now he is in the right moment.”

Charlton manager Dean Holden: “I have pride in the performance and the way we have shown ourselves as a football club on and off the pitch.

“We rode our luck in the first 20 minutes, but which team doesn’t have to do that in the Premier League? We grew into the game.

“We had a big chance early in the second half and I thought we had a grip of the game, I turned to my left and Erik was bringing them three on, Rashford, Casemiro and Eriksen.

“I thought it was a harsh scoreline to be honest, but I am proud of the performance.

“Erik invited me into his office after the game and he told me about the quality of our youngsters, which gives me great pride.”

This is how Twitter reacted at the shocking moment a fan gets ‘knocked out’ after a heavy push by one copper with the police force going on to be criticised…

@Brogue__: One of them told me “unless you want to spend the night in the nick keep moving” I stopped to take my bank card out of my pocket…

@ciaranbrad: I’m sure there’ll be talk of what happened before- and I get police need to ensure their own safety – but leaving someone spark out like that is disgraceful & dangerous @gmpolice #MUFC

@PadCelBlu: Football fans get treated worse than any individual on the planet.

@Miketyson2007: Greater Manchester Police …Doing normal Greater Manchester Police things 🙁

@skues1973: Disgusting should be ashamed of yourselves @gmpolice. Hope our club does something about it.Hit his head hard on the floor could of caused serious injury. Hope he’s OK and the policeman gets the sack

@Jameseyyy93: That appears to be the same chief inspector who decided to take my empty beer can off me as I was walking to the ground, before pouring the last couple of drops onto the floor in an attempt to antagonise me

@SwanseaNathan: Send it to the Police Complaints. No individual should suffer at the hands of the people suppose to be upholding the law.

@mpezet: One for the @WeAreTheFSA?

@fab_dagnano1: Find this police officer, that’s a disgrace

@eideangm: GMP again? Imagine my shock.

@stevenageRon: He was pushed over. Police should be more aggressive, our force are a joke how soft they are.

@hill_deancafc: @gmpolice got anything to say to this treatment of a fan being pushed to the floor and left there ? I am pretty sure you won’t… Disgraceful policing surly after doing that they should have checked the person was alive after banging their head on the floor??? Disgraceful

@SparkyMate: Police have always reserved the rough house tactics for football fans.

@Jairstone: Shoves him, sees that he’s banged his head on concrete and carries on walking, what a tosser

@mattysmev: 3 or more, public place, cause fear to your Average person. 49 of us know what that means. He will be seeing dc grundy horrible face at 530am I imagine

@_DL96: Police at the match are always cunts because they want a rise out of people, they’re desperate for it to kick off all the time, rats mate.

@kianb_: Seems to be quite a theme on here with @gmpolice doesn’t there, yet nothing seems to get said about it from their end? Same shit different day

@TweetingChop: I’ve literally seen murderers get better treatment from the police than football fans.

@D4rren_WWFC: Absolute bottom of the barrel scum

@Joe_obrienffc: They’ll just protect themselves as usual, old bill just trouble makers at football

@Ryan_Colaco: Nothing new here, police officers routinely abuse their powers. How do members of the public retaliate or defend themselves from this? A slight brush on them by accident is classed as ‘assault’, whilst the useless IOPC clear them of wrongdoing & they get promotions.

@BlackScarfMarc: Scumbag. You can see the fella’s head hit the concrete after the old bill shoved him over. Spark out (potentially worse) yet the copper just walks off… knows he’s done wrong too as he looks back 3 times while walking.

@simonspinkss: Gmp up to their usual tricks

@LH__1992: Fans sing a song that some don’t like & the FA and police are quick to launch investigations. Fans assaulted by police, and nothing. Whatever happened to sticks and stones? #MUFC #CAFC

@whuryan_: Fucking scumbags @gmpolice

@max_springer2: Usual scummy GMP behaviour

@CAFCel94: Disgusting pigs

@bwfcanthony02: GMP being cunts with football fans. Shock

@DylanBregman: Haven’t seen the context behind this video but from personal experience @gmpolice are the worst I’ve encountered at the football. Seems to be a new incident cropping up every match day with them at the moment. @FairCop_

@ZDPFC: yet another example of some school bully on a power trip. feeble little creatures think wearing a uniform makes them tough

@kswannick4: Worst police force in the country by far not one of them has a clue how to police a football match

@John_H_1996: Typical of the bullying wankers at @gmpolice when it comes to football fans.

@sambucawasevil: Same if not worse as one in oldham where they was punching a guy and strangling with forearm @gmpolice and @AndyBurnhamGM will come out and say they did nothing wrong !!!!

@LeeStockley: @gmpolice being absolute scum again is it? The worst police force in the country and that takes some doing.

@Jefc__1878: Utter scum. Saw it first hand on Friday what these are like. Assaulting fans for nothing, then running away when they get a reaction. Scum of the earth.
