Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds fans took to taunt each other with the game also seeing fans ejected and arrested by police.
The atmosphere was an edgy one at Hillsborough, but it was the away end that were jubilant come the end, while some home fans booed their side’s defeat.
Footage has since surfaced capturing just what it was like to be in the ground on Friday night, everything from pre and post-match trouble, chants from both sides, and limbs. Here’s just some of what was filmed and put online…

Leeds fans playing the victim. My bird works on west stand concourse and had to shut her kiosk down after 25 minutes and got moved onto the South. Tills smashed up and getting thrown at staff, bottles thrown at her. Wonder what the toilets ended up looking like? #swfc #lufc https://t.co/A5GJIG2YdK

Seven mins in and the Sheffield Wednesday fans are singing this đ why on earth would you want to sing about a sex offender #lufc https://t.co/t6pC6Ex17y

Why are our own fans spitting at each other, why are they kicking off at people who want OUR club run better.
If you think ÂŁ47 for a ticket last night is ok, youâre part of the problem.
I donât get it, how people donât see how much of a shambles the club is? #swfc

The game itself saw goals from Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto help Daniel Farke’s men back up to second place in the Championship table.
Leeds move above Ipswich into second after the 2-0 win, Bamford converting a cross from Firpo on stroke of half time to put visitors ahead, before the visitors doubled their advantage through a calm Gnonto finish.
In-form Sheff Wed missed the chance to move out of drop zone for first time since August while the Whites have won 11 of 12 league games in 2024, two points behind leaders Leicester.

Leeds United: Meslier; Gray, Rodon, Ampadu, Firpo (Byram 90+2); Gruev, Kamara; Gnonto (James 81), Rutter (Piroe 88), Summerville (Roberts 81); Bamford (Joseph 81).

Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl: “It’s a difficult one. Honestly, we are a little bit disappointed to take nothing. Of course, they had some good moments as a strong side, but from my side, we also had some good moments and sometimes missed the last pass.
“You can think about the time [at the end of the first half] – if it’s four minutes, it’s over, and then we play and play, concede the goal in extra-time. After the extra-time, and it always hurts a little bit, because it’s also different at half-time, but then this is football.
“We changed the shape in the second half, which shows also that we are brave (bringing on) a second striker to try it again. We tried everything but, in the end, it was not enough.
“We will learn from this game and then next weekend we will play against another strong opponent in Ipswich and keep going. We showed in the last months and weeks after setbacks that we can come back again.”
Leeds’ Daniel Farke: “It was a pretty mature performance, a pretty disciplined performance and also, keeping in mind that was the fourth game for us within 10 days on a really difficult pitch.
“You could feel Sheffield Wednesday were on a good run; they played with confidence, had an excited home crowd, they are good on the counter-attack, they are good at set-pieces.
“I would say, perhaps, we gave away a few too many corners, especially during the first half. Illan Meslier made a good save, but apart from this, we didn’t allow them to have any chance out of the game.
“I think it was a well deserved win in a difficult game and I’m pretty pleased, especially with our maturity today.”

Twitter users gave their reaction as Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds fans taunt each other with the game also seeing fans ejected and arrested…
@UnitedWhite: #SWFC fans throwing things at Meslier. Disgusting behaviour. They should ban the lot of them from attending home games. Vile animals. #LUFC
@UnitedLeeds21: Their fans are a disgrace throwing Missiles sore losers and off his head I’m sure #Lufc
@sawyer_macca: really do not like Leeds but if you was one of them chanting about Galatasary during the game you should be ashamed⊠but then to go in a boozer and not be prepared to face backlash from home fans aswell that are better than that is downright embarrassing .
@lizburgess83: Everyone’ll be moaning when we have to close a stand or play behind closed doors
@h1867x: can’t say it’s surprising though
@ncalow: Itâs bad enough that this stuff keeps happening, but then I read people trying to justify it. We shouldnât be accepting of it and it needs to stop
@badkin80: I donât condone throwing anything but player himself has to take responsibility for turning to the kop and enticing a reaction. Still stupid but if he doesnât do that I donât think they throw them.
@19592210alan: When will Wednesday fans stop finding any excuse for the thugs , a goalkeeper celebrating his team’s goal is enough for snowflake fans to throw bottles , so it’s now racists, pics of Bradley , throwing bottles , great PR .
@chucklesthescot: These ‘fans’ obviously don’t give a damn about getting the club into trouble. They just want to play the big man for their friends & think they’re dead funny & hard. Idiots.
@_ae19_: Meslier was being a knob but not more than any other player in that position. Idiots throwing stuff.
@Jinja_Owl: Brainless moronsâŠbut I watched Meslier kick something ONTO the pitch then wave at the ref.
@Jordrl66: Not condoning people throwing things on the pitch they need dealing with idiots. But not sure why Meslier felt need to incite crowd it was ridic towards Kop. Bamford did same for goal and no cards itâs a slippery slope. And afraid more of this will happen
@waynejackson84: Lunatics, we’re in with a real chance of staying in the league. All the efl will do if we persist with this is deduct points and relegate us
@jameswilson242: Many Leeds fans were seen literally whacking the sides of the trams and hitting the windows which could have led to some damage or someone getting hurt. The police made no efforts to stop them. It was a horrible experience for myself and other passengers. @syptweet
@FurryIkleEwok: Palmer has stuff thrown at him from away end on Tv
@McBladey: Can rarely hear Hillsborough from where I live, but we can hear the Leeds fans singing “you’re going down” with the windows shut đ
