Scunthorpe issue statement on upcoming home games amid speculation on future at Glanford Park

Scunthorpe issue a statement on where they’ll play some of their upcoming home games amid speculation on their future at Glanford Park.

The Iron confirm their next two home games – on Tuesday the 24th and Saturday the 28th of October – will take place at their stadium and not elsewhere.

Negotiations with former club owner Peter Swann are still progressing but he’s granted an extension on the tenancy as a “goodwill gesture”.

In September 2023, David Hilton put the club up for sale and then after disagreements between Hilton and various fans groups, and the emergence of details relating to previous criminal offences committed by Hilton, he reportedly withdrew the club’s funding.

A statement claimed that Scunthorpe would play home games at Gainsborough Trinity, who in turn said nothing had been agreed.

On the 4th of October 2023, the club was sold to local businesswoman Michelle Harness, and the hope is that they can stay at Glanford Park, with Scunthorpe United’s supporters’ trust activating a window of opportunity to buy the stadium.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Scunthorpe United can confirm that the Iron’s next two home games against Spennymoor Town and Bishop’s Stortford will go ahead as planned at Glanford Park.

With negotiations over the purchase of the ground still progressing, former owner of the club, Peter Swann, has granted an extension on our tenancy at the stadium to cover the upcoming back-to-back encounters in a goodwill gesture, while we look to conclude the acquisition of the asset in the coming weeks.

United welcome the Moors to Glanford Park on Tuesday, October 24th (7.45pm kick-off) before the Blues are in town four days later on Saturday, October 28th (3pm kick-off).

Tickets have now returned to sale online via www.sufctickets.com for the games, while our ticket office reopens at 10am on Thursday for supporters to purchase those in person.

We would like to thank Peter for his cooperation in negotiations so far, and for allowing us to proceed with our next two home league games.

This is how fans reacted as Scunthorpe issue a statement on upcoming home games amid speculation on their future at Glanford Park…

@ironbru_net: Rome wasn’t built in a day, but Michelle wasn’t on that particular job.

@GTShaaaaw: It sometimes takes a lady to successfully work with ridiculous male egos. MH did the deal with DH, now seemingly has PS back at the table. Excellent news 🫡 #UTI

@adam_major1: “In a good will gesture” – Thanks Peter for letting the club use its own ground, really nice of you

@iron_matt84: Great news! Sounds positive looking ahead too.

@chalkey1973: Always said swann was a good bloke

@JackF_12: Yes Thankyou Peter, for letting us use our ground that you stole from the club 👍🏻

@filing_iron: Refreshing to see information communicated in a professional manner. A good start.

@sufc_mike: Good news for the next couple of home games and it seems that Swann is actually trying to work with the buyers this time…

@YorkyIron: I’ll take that. Looking positive

@thumpermaxie: Great news and well done to you in achieving this. Best for the rest of your negotiations.

@BrewsLee3: Positive stuff! 🤞🩵💜

@drageben: And we’re back at GP. Starting to worry a little bit that we wouldn’t be there again

@iron1290: Will be there as always 👌 #uti

@retryorcancel: Good to see that Scunthorpe will play at GP for another couple of games. But only because Swann is being nice enough to let SUFC rent the ground he took from the club in the first place.

Cameron Finch:
Now is the time out club needs our support
Buy tickets
Buy shirts
Buy merchandise.
All moving in the right direction. Awesome!

Steve Smith: In michelle we trust… uti

Stuart Cox: That’s good news. We need a win/win/win situation.good for the fans, good for the new board & good for Mr. Swann. Here’s hoping.

Stephen Cowan: Early days but certainly sounds promising

Sam Curtis: Great news this. Makes perfect sense. Keeps the money in the club and hopefully a positive outcome. UTI

Julie Taylor: With this fab news I hope everyone gets behind the club, buys tickets and gives everyone the support they desperately need! 💜💙

Matt Isle:
Great news.
Would genuinely love to know if the recent ACV news is:
Helping negotiations
Impacting negotiations
Having little impact on negotiations

Nick Brown: Looking promising this. Fingers crossed this decisively goes our way eventually as Gainsborough would be a disaster.
