Scott Parker speaks for first time on becoming new Burnley head coach

Scott Parker speaks for first time on becoming the new Burnley head coach, a replacement for Vincent Kompany who departed for Bayern Munich.

The former footballer turned manager previously guided Fulham and Bournemouth to promotion from the Championship, with the Clarets hoping he can do the same at the first attempt for the 2024/25 season.

Final details were sorted in the last few hours, signing a 3 year deal, with Burnley impressed by his promotion record and his commitment to development of young players.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Burnley Football Club are delighted to announce Scott Parker has been appointed as the club’s new head coach.

The 43 year old arrives at Turf Moor with a proven managerial record after securing two promotions to the Premier League previously with Fulham and Bournemouth.

He also enjoyed a stellar career as a player including fifteen seasons in the Premier League and representing his country, England, as captain.

After signing his contract to become boss of Burnley he admitted he couldn’t wait to get started: “I’m really pleased to be here! I have been speaking with Burnley for some time now which has been a positive thing as I’ve now got a real feel for the people around the club.”

“To be around the training ground now you start to get that feeling again and I can’t wait to get on the training field and start work!”

“For us to be successful this year is the most important thing. We have to win and build a team the fans and club can be proud of. This team can represent every single one of them in that aspect and that’s the aim.”

To BBC Lancashire, the video above, he said: “I think firstly excited. Excited about the challenge, what we face and players team, football club and myself face.

“And I think that’s the main driving force in my head now. Pleased to be here. It’s been a longish process, shall we say, and obviously been speaking for some time now, which has probably been a positive in that sense because I’ve got a real feel for the people around the club and now to be here today tc be around the training ground and you start getting that feeling again and can’t wait to get on the training field and start work, really.

“I think one of the main reasons is what I’ve probably just suggested there in the sense of the process.

“The process was long in the sense of probably got a real understanding of Allen and ownership here, the history of Burnley in that sense as well.

“From afar, of course, in terms of how I see it. Probably got similar traits in the sense of what you stand for as a football club and certainly what I stand for in some core values probably are very similar in that sense.

“Hard work and honesty, humility about us in certain moments.

“And certainly that was a big driver.

“I think, like I said, the main driver was the enthusiasm, the passion in which certainly Alan and the other owners showed and the vision they see for the football club.”

Chairman Alan Pace is delighted to have secured the fantastic talents of Scott Parker: “We are thrilled to welcome Scott to Burnley Football Club!”

“His vision for the future aligns with our goals and ambitions of returning to the Premier League as soon as possible.”

“His track record of success along with a commitment to developing young talent makes him an ideal fit.”

“We are confident he can lead us to new heights and continue to build on the solid foundations laid at Turf Moor.”
