Scott Parker earns praise for the way he’s transformed Burnley after a big win over Luton on the opening weekend of the 2024/25 season.
Burnley struck four past Luton on Monday night, with two goals in each half and Luton getting a consolation goal.
Scott Parker had the ‘perfect gameplan’, getting off to a winning start showing promotion credential and fans watching on impressed with the style of football being played, a level above a depleted looking Luton side..
It took just six minutes for the Clarets to go ahead, Lucas Pires with a fantastic through ball to Josh Brownhill who smashed his side ahead.
It was 2-0 on 40 minutes, a long ball forward from Roberts found Odobert closing in on goal and slotted it into the back of the net.
Adebayo struck the bar from close range early in the second half, with Burnley clearing their lines, then Tahith Chong got one back for Luton.
Burnley made sure Luton weren’t going to be producing a comeback, a neat corner kick routine was met by the head of Dara O’Shea who bulleted his effort home to make it 3-1 on 73 minutes.
The right foot of Vitinho made it four with around 10 minutes remaining.

Burnley manager Scott Parker, per Sky Sports: “A lot of hard work goes in, but you never really know until you reach this point where you are. This week has been intense in terms of a gameplan, and how to get a result.
“I’ve got nothing but praise. As a coach it was very enjoyable to see. This is a big result, it’s a tough place to come. We had to show a different side to us in certain moments. I said to the players, at times, we’re going to have to revert back to men. I was proud of that.
“The first two goals were everything I asked for, runs in behind, giving us a platform. This gameplan was suited for Luton, we did that side of the game very well and were deadly in transition.”
Parker said, per the club website: “It was pleasing all around. It’s a very good result and performance-wise I thought we were everything I wanted us to be.
“We executed a game plan on both sides of the game, in terms of out of possession and in possession.
“A lot of work has gone into the team in the last four weeks but even more so a real amount of intense work has gone in this week to get a result at a really difficult place to come. We understood that.
“What makes it more difficult is the way they play, they’re a man-for-man team that are pretty aggressive in certain moments. If you get it wrong it can cause you problems.
“But as I said, I’m extremely proud of the team, more so for the execution of the information I gave them. It was a bright team performance all around.”
On seeing four different goal scorers and the finishing shown from his side: “That was very pleasing. The first two goals were exactly what we set out to do in terms of runners in behind, a platform from our front three boys who needed to be strong and take the ball under pressure against an aggressive back three.
“I thought all of our goals were very good.”
Luton manager Rob Edwards: “I’m not going to sugar-coat it. We have to deal with our vulnerabilities better. There wasn’t much in the game first half, we conceded from two poor moments and then obviously the scoreline affects everyone’s emotions.
“2-1 we’re right in the game, the third goal was a killer. Sometimes you have to wear teams down, but the final bit was lacking, getting bodies forward was tough, sometimes that’s the way it goes. We’ll progress, get better, some key players will return and we’ll get one or two in as well.
“We’ve got to accept it tonight, and appreciate we’re going to improve in the coming weeks.”
“We’ll improve. We’ve got to take it and accept it tonight”

@BFCitalia1: One big thing I noticed – how happy they all looked. Not saying they weren’t happy under VK but after last season it’s so good to see a united squad. Trafford running up to celebrate and Wout smiling 😂 we couldn’t keep them all could we? 😂 #twitterclarets
