Wayne Rooney has been tipped to leave Derby County for a surprising return to Man Utd in a bid to solve their striker crisis.
The former Red Devils captain signed an 18-month deal with the Rams last summer which has only just come into effect this month.
Since arriving at the Championship side, the 34-year-old has appeared in four matches, he hasn’t put one in the back of the net yet but has produced one assist which came on his debut in the 2-1 win over Barnsley.
Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has suggested that Manchester United should try and sign Rooney this month as a short-term fix.
He adds that Rooney, who scored 253 goals in 559 appearances for the North West club between 2004 and 2017, would still play a huge part and even improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer‘s current squad.

“To go back to your first question about strikers who Manchester United should sign,” Solhekol told Sky Sports..
“In the past sometimes they have surprised us by who they’ve signed, the players they’ve gone for.
“I remember when Sir Alex Ferguson signed Eric Cantona out of the blue, when they signed Andy Cole out of the blue, when they signed Henrik Larsson on loan out of the blue.
“There is one player who’s a Manchester United legend, who’s scored more goals for Manchester United than anyone else, somebody who’s scored more goals for England than anyone else, who is 34 years old, who is a player-coach at Derby County, he lives close to Carrington – maybe it’s time to give Wayne Rooney a call.
“Why not? Would he not get into this Manchester United team? Would he not improve this squad? A quick fix.”
They currently sit 5th in the Premier League table with 34 points from 23 games. It’s fair to say they face a big challenge in hoping they can qualify for a Champions League spot or even a European place.

Strange how sky call these people experts yet people closely connected to clubs and players have no idea who they are. Like you're not exactly in the meetings but we all know you have ties at the club and many different places in the scene. This guy has a degree and that's it

The man scored 5 goals in his final Utd season and is now 3 years older.
Maybe they should give Van Nistelrooy and Berbatov a bell as well

@welshramdcfc: With what’s gone on this season … it would not surprise me
@bluebirds_the: Imagine if Derby signed Wayne Rooney causing them getting done for FFP and get a point deduction only for him to fuck off after 4 games. Classic ??
@Daniel_Evans56: @SkyKaveh wants Rooney at Man Utd again ??????
@DerbyRetweets: Surely Rooney wouldn’t leave…
@WestSussexRam: Didn’t think you could play for 3 clubs in one season. So that’s that rumour squashed!
@pdelaney07: Literally ran out of players to link to united now
