A report on Sunday afternoon claims Everton could sack Frank Lampard with a replacement in mind following the 1-0 defeat to Wolves.
Things got worse for the Toffees as ex Liverpool player Conor Coady’s second-half header proves the difference while Jonjoe Kenny was sent off for two yellow cards with 12 minutes to play.
Frank Lampard’s side have lost five of their six Premier League matches and had no answer to Coady’s header on 49 minutes.
Frustrations were clear to see in Everton’s chasing of the game and Jonjoe Kenny picked up two yellow cards with 12 minutes to play as Wolves cantered to a 1-0 victory at a disgruntled Goodison Park.
It’s suggested that a board meeting has been called at Everton with two board members wanting to sack Frank and replace him with Sam Allardyce – who managed the Merseysiders between 2017 and 2018.
Despite previously announcing his retirement from his managerial career, on the 30th November 2017, Big Sam signed a contract to manage Everton until June 2019, who were 13th place in the Premier League table, following a poor start to the 2017–18 season.
His first game in charge came two days later and guided the club to a seven-game unbeaten run at the start of his tenure, a spell which included five clean sheets. Everton ended the season in eighth-position, but fans were dissatisfied with the style of play with Everton ranked 20th for total shots, 19th for total shots on target, 16th for passing accuracy and 17th for shots faced in the Premier League. Allardyce departed the club on the 16th of May 2018.
Saturday’s result against Wolves means that Lampard’s side, who have not suffered relegation in 71 years, are level on 22 points with 18th-placed Watford but they do have three games in hand on the Hornets. That said, Burnley in 19th place are just one point behind Everton, who have only one game in hand on Sean Dyche’s men.
A run of just nine points from the last 60 available and only two league wins since September has left a squad drained of confidence in danger of dropping out of the top flight for only the third time in their history and first since 1951.
Lampard hoped that the Goodison faithful would be able to help his side with the boost they needed for their survival bid – however the atmosphere turned increasingly toxic and there were hundreds of empty seats before the final whistle.
The victory for Wolves moves them up to seventh in the Premier League table and firmly keeps them in the European hunt with only four points to Manchester United in fourth place.

Everton’s Mason Holgate speaking to Sky Sports on a fourth successive Premier League defeat: “It is what it is. There’s no hiding place. There’s nothing we can do about it. We’ve got to dig deep. As a performance if we look at it is was a lot better than Monday night. I thought we showed spirit and fight but ultimately when you are down there you have to pick up points. We’re disappointed but we have to start winning games. If we don’t start winning games we have to start not losing games.
On how low confidence is: “Confidence is not going to be high due to results and where we are but we have to believe in ourselves. There is nowhere to hide and it’s time to step up. It seems to be at the moment other teams keep nicking it and things aren’t going our way. Games are coming thick and fast and we have to stay consistent in our performances and stay strong. We can’t change what has already happened.”
On how strongly players want to avoid relegation: “Nobody wants to get relegated no matter what club you’re at or what the history is. If you look at the squad we’ve got we shouldn’t be anywhere near here. There’s no hiding that but we are and we have to deal with it.”
Wolves boss Bruno Lage tells Match of the Day: “Today I am very happy. That is the way we need to play every game, or try to. Sometimes when you lose it is important to continue to focus. We did that and after three defeats, two victories. Very good.
On what he said at half-time: “It was a fight because they are a big team with top players. Lampard has a lot of experience now as a manager. 5-0 they come to be aggressive, they come to press and give a good answer in front of their times. After we controlled that and the plan worked well. Sometimes the plan goes right and today it was like that.”
Everton boss Frank Lampard has admitted he is waiting for the Toffees’ luck to turn after they were beaten again in the Premier League.
“It’s my job to be confident, to be positive, to be realistic”, Lampard said post match.
“We’ve got 12 games, some games in hand, we’re waiting on something to turn into our favour.
“All we can do is work, we can’t think about ‘what ifs’, we have to work and fight.
“I don’t put emphasis on Goodison, I want to get points everywhere.
“It wasn’t more worrying than Tottenham. We were solid in the first half, had the better chances, and the goal changed the whole feeling of the game.”
Fans reacted as a report claims Everton could sack Frank Lampard with a replacement in mind…
@Jameso04: Job to big for Lampard
@Chrisstirland03: Cant say I’m that unhappy. Frank pretended he didn’t even know who abrahmovich is and was pretty spineless in his responses earlier in the week. Whereas managers like Viera Conte etc came out and spoke out about what’s happening to Chelsea is unfair.
@louuuu_lfc: That would be the most Everton thing ever 😭
@Paulbyr897: Would not be surprised everton are a shambles at the moment
@lfcmli4eva: 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 absolutely hilarious, love to see it!!!
@shear_joshua: I wouldn’t go with Allardyce I’d go OGS
@scottmurray43: No I rate Frank they need to stick with him. Young top manager he just needs time 🙏
@ChloeWesthead1: 🤣🤣🤣🤣 the gift that keeps on giving
