The Premier League’s most ‘fickle’ fans according to new research has been revealed this week, making for interesting reading.

Fickle in football terms is where fans cheer you one week and boo you the next – likely to change your opinion or your feelings suddenly and without a good reason.

Bookmakers.tv have looked into and analysed around three million tweets from fans of Premier League clubs over the course of the 2021/22 season, and has worked out each side’s most positive and negative weeks by counting up what percentage of their social media interactions were mostly unfavourable.

The percentage differences have then been ranked, so to find out who the top flight’s most “fickle” fans are – from least to most changeable – take a look below…

20th: Liverpool

Highest weekly negative sentiment: 29.7%. Lowest weekly negative sentiment: 17.2%. Difference: 12.5%.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit 2nd in the Premier League table and spent of the 2021/22 season in that position.

This is Liverpool’s 130th season in existence and the club’s 60th consecutive season in the top flight of English football.

In addition to the Premier League, Liverpool are participating in this season’s editions of the FA Cup (making the semi finals) and the UEFA Champions League (in the quarter finals), and won the EFL Cup for the ninth time in their history, more than any other club.

19th: Manchester United

Highest weekly negative sentiment: 34.9%. Lowest weekly negative sentiment: 21.4%. Difference: 13.5%.

Ralf Rangnick’s side currently sit 6th in the Premier League table and spent of the 2021/22 season in 4th and 5th.

The season is the Red Devil’s 30th season in the Premier League and their 47th consecutive season in the top flight of English football. The club were knocked out of the EFL Cup in the third round, the FA Cup in the fourth round, and the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16.

Highest weekly negative sentiment: 38.3%. Lowest weekly negative sentiment: 23.7%. Difference: 14.6%.

Eddie Howe’s side currently sit 14th in the Premier League table and spent of the 2021/22 season in the relegation zone, fairing better as the campaign went on.

The season is Newcastle United’s 129th year in their history and fifth consecutive season in the Premier League.
